Default New Rider! I got a KLR650! other Arkansas riders?

Hello, I'm new to the forum, but have been lurking for awhile while researching what I wanted for a first bike. I decided on the KLR650 and finally got this one last week. I tried riding it with no experience and laid it over once (no damage except bent handrail guard), and decided to park it for the rest of the week until I got the MSF training. That helped out alot.

I have some questiosn: How long do I have before maintinance will need to be performed on the bike? I have 2000 miles on it now and it was last serviced two months ago with 1900 miles.

I live in Mountain View which is in north-central Arkansas about two hours north of Little Rock. Are there some other DS riders in Arkansas? I'd like to meet other people and learn of local events. Let me know...

hi parawing,
Congrats on your KLr purchase!
Good idea to get the MSF course can't go wrong with that.
find out the next local tech day in your area. (a real Must).
there is a klr map on the main discussion page.
you will find most members on the map. if, not
more can be found in the profile section of the board.
@ 2k you should be able to attend a tech day & do all your required maintenace.
that way you learn to use:
the right tools
the right procedures
with lots of KLR friends.
Welcome to the fold-

adh007, you are just south of me. I'm in Fouke, you drive through here on 71 coming in to SW Arkansas. Give me a shout when you head this way or ever want to cruise around this area for the day.

So you're the one that made that bike cost me $100 more! I would be mad at you, but it was still a good deal.

The deal I missed was a bike in the Little Rock's newspaper yesterday. A 2000 KLR650 described as being in good running condition for $1800. I called the owner and he said it sold the day he listed it...no wonder at that price. I wonder who's the lucky buyer.

I'm afriad to ride any long distance until I got more practice, but I hope to meet some of you guys soon.

Yep, It was me. I guess you wanted it more than me. Sorry to hear about your little spill. The KLR is my first bike as well, and I too am looking to get into a MSF course pretty soon. I've puttered around on mine since I bought it, but I'm still waiting for my gear to get here before I start learning to ride it for real.

A buddy of mine (and fellow KLR rider) moderates the Arklatex Dual Sport Group, they seem to be a good group and you probably aren't too far out of range.
Here's the link if you are interested.

Default New Rider! I got a KLR650! other Arkansas riders?

I live in Jonesboro and do a lot of camping and trout fishing on my KLR around the state. Right now my bike is torn down as I am doing a piston bore job on it, but it will be back together in a couple of weeks or so.

I'm in Rogers Arkansas. We have numerous great places to ride- both paved and dirt. Come on over !

I'm in Newport ~60 miles to the east. We have a gathering near Clinton in October. It's not a KLR group, but pretty much anyone with a good attitude is welcome. There'll be at least one KLR there, or not. I'm figuring on doing some riding in the Forrest this year. One of our group lives in Fox. He works here.

Congrats! Seems to be a lot of first-time riders choosing KLRs. I think that's pretty cool and says a lot about the bike itself Try not to lay 'er down too much but I hear they can take it anyway. Enjoy!!
