Default 91 KLR 250, Tacho sticking on 4 and 5 rpms

My klr's tacho is sticking. I know that the bike is reving higher, and it sounds fine. Oh speedo seems to work fine still to. Any thing I should do to fix it? Is it a symptom fo anything i should worry about?

I noticed this yesterday after not riding it for about 2 weeks.

Cheers in advance for any insight.

Hows the battery? If the battery's low it do some strange things. Check voltage and fluid level while there. Its electrically run, the speedo is run by a mechanical cable to the front wheel so their two different animals all together. (I haven't heard of a tach sticking).

You may try unplugging the wiring harness behind the front number plate and checking your connections(which run up to the gauges).

I'd put some dilectric grease on whatever connectors you can get to, to prevent any further problems.. They will pick up corrosion over time.

when the battery in my old 250 was flat, my tacho didnt work. sat on pretty much 0. when it was doing about 6000 then it would rise slightly.

It wont charge like my older one....The charge it holds is very minimal. i put distilled water in each cell, any other ideas? it still wont charge. im pissed! im riding the deadly winter her in NJ, and this is what happens

Most of the maintainance free batteries are supposed to have acid in them. They are usually shipped WITHOUT the acid in them. Once the acid has been added (NOT DISTILLED WATER), they need to be trickle charged up to full charge (their about 80% charged at that point). You may check with the distributor about the fluid (if its already in there, etc).
