I know it was bound to happen eventually, but it happened before I even put 250 kilometers on the bike. Driving up out of my underground parking (urban dweller with a KLR - go figure), and some dingbat coming the other way cuts right to the inside of the (mostly) blind curve - my options were to stop, or hit him, so I tried to stop - in a turn, on an incline, and I went down. Dingbat stops, drives around me, and continues down on the inside!
I feared the worst - broken plastics, etc., but after picking up the bike, I couldn't see a single scratch on it - it was still showroom new. ![]() Hopefully, getting that out of the way now will ward off any higher speed dumps which could damage the bike. |

Won't be too hard to find him and have a friendly chat. |

First of all glad you're ok. Second, glad the fairing made it unscathed.
I remember my second day on my DT50, 2smoke US street legal "dual sport", at 15 years/old. I t-boned an old lady in a parking lot that came out of nowhere. If memory serves me correctly she was backing out beside a truck. Was scratched up and bruised but made it out ok. I got up mad, mad, mad, mad. But she felt awful, so I only roughed her up a little bit. J/K ofcourse Again glad you're ok. |

I dumped mine today as well. On a really muddy trail while trying to turn around. Felt my foot sliding in the mud...started doing the splits...so had to lower the bike to the ground before I started singing soprano

Glad you are OK !
I had a close call last night in Atlanta with my '08. Myself and a friend (DR650) were behind a car in semi-heavy traffic(Female driver on a cell phone)She was weaving a little so we backed off about 30 feet. Went into a strait away and gradually again got closer to her when the up coming light went yellow she stood on the brakes. I stepped on the rear brake in which locked up, slid to the left past her and into oncoming traffic, stopping in the middle of the intersection. I didnt hit her and no one hit me but I was just plain lucky! My fault and lesson learned. Be safe, JCM |

If you are about to be in a crash, And it's not your fault, you are better hitting them than lets say swerving and hitting a pole or guardrail.... It's much harder to collect if you don't hit the cause of the incident... Still sounds dumb to me.... I would probably rather hit the guardrail or of course nothing at all of course.... Being that the guy did not hit the bike, it would be really hard to collect damages or apply fault.... I am really happy the bike and rider were A-O.K..... Hope that will be your only incident... At least you got it over with quickly!!!

Reporting it to the police has nothing to do with collecting damages in Court.
It is a crime to leave the scene of an accident. Now whether they will do anything, without witnesses is another story, but you are bound by law to report a crime when you see it. I think, or at least 20 years ago you were |

Kinda my point, he could say he was looking at his radio dial and saw nothing, or grabbing fries off the passenger seat....
If he or she saw nothing, there is nothing to report.....

Glad your ok man. A bike can be replaced, your neck can't.
I've been cut off twice in one day! As a result, I only use the bike sparingly for commutes, and much prefer heading out of the city up to cooler less crowded spots for riding (Payson, Sedona, Prescott, etc.). My city has a gaggle-fuk of poor, inattentive drivers, and left-lane cruisers. Imagine a combination of Midwest drivers, older yuppies from everywhere, illegal laborers in landscaping trucks, and LA transplants all together on the road.... add sweltering 100+ degree weather. Plus, there's always some redneck in a jacked-up pick up truck who wants to play fuk-fuk games when I'm using the shoulder to get around traffic jams. ![]() |
