Thanks Mike,
I finally got everything assembled yesterday afternoon. Everything fit great and went smooth. No problems removing the rotor bolts but the bolts deformed a bit when being torqued. (They will be replaced soon) Driving to work to today the difference was clearly noticable. Well, worth the wait. ![]() ![]()

Hi, could you put some details about where you got the parts or what bike the caliper came from. Id like to do this mod myself because the brakes are awful. I just bought a klr yesterday and rode it home, my current/normal bike is a zx6r with twin discs and twin 6 pot calipers, so kind of used to stopping when I decide to, not when gravity and wind resistance allow me to

The caliper is the original that came with the 09. I got all the parts (320mm rotor, HH brake pads and caliper relocation bracket) from Eagle Mike. Took a couple weeks to get the relocations bracket. I've had it one for a few thousand miles now, braking is greatly improved. Hoping it get even better in a few weeks when I replace the rear brake pads.
Hope this helps, Dave

Thanks for the reply and full details, I unfortunately have the KLR600 1988, I suppose I shouldve stated that first, do you or anyone reading this know of any known upgrades for the front brakes? Ive searched google but couldnt find anything, after 30 pages I gave in, searched ebay, found a conversion kit, but its unbranded and looks cheap chinese stuff (if your in the UK like me, these horrible chinese rip offs of other manufacturers bikes are swarming the market, the young riders are buying them because theyre £1500 for a brand new bike, and theres a good reason for it, a kid in work got one and the engine seized after the first 750miles!) which would mean Id never find spares for it such as seals etc and I wouldnt want to rely on them being of good quality, with castings that werent flawed.
Thanks in advance. J |

Eagle Mike has a similar set up for the earlier versions. It uses a spacer to relocate the caliper. Otherwise, everything else is the same. The larger floating rotor and the new brake pads made the difference.
Good Luck

Cool, I had a look at his site but couldnt find prices for the required stuff, how much was your disc and bracket? Do you reckon he could make up something custom so I could use my spare calipers from my zx6r (tokico 6pots!) hehe

I've just posted this on a couple of other threads, because it may save us all some money if we do a group order. Mike is going to make me (and hopefully a few others) an adaptor to use the 2008+ caliper, with the EBC 320 mm rotor, on the early bikes (to 2007.) Projected cost is around $35.00 U.S., plus shipping. I'm not looking for a profit on this, just to cover costs. If I remember correctly, EBC is a British outfit, so the rotor should be available there. If not, I can refer you to some U.S. companies that sell them. By the way: what model is your KLR. If it's a Tengai, the forks are different, so this won't work with their brackets. These are for the 'A' models, and I'm not sure if it'll fit a 'C' version, if that's what you have. Let me know, best by P.M. w.r. |
