Hi Mike, this is Matt, we meet last month at your shop. (Black 09 with tick)
I just did a 2000 mile maintenance which I also checked the valve clearance and the Doo spring tension. The valves were right in the middle of the spec but the Doo spring tension seemed low to me. (not sure what it's supposed to be though). There was still a little spring left in it but it didn't seem that tight. I thought I read that I may be able to just put a smaller spring in for now and then put your kit on at a later time. Please let me know what you think, I'd like to get a smaller spring for now and then put your kit on at the next maintenance or rebuild. I also had a couple questions about your other parts but we can hopefully talk about those soon. Have a great day and please let me know what you think I should do with my Doo spring. Matt

Hi again Mike
After thinking about it, I figured I should just complete the upgrade if I'm going to be in there again. Could you please give me the info for purchasing and installing your Doo kit? I can stop by any afternoon and pick it up from you. Anyone locally have the special tools needed for the install? Thanks Mike and anyone else who could help with the special tools. Matt

Here is my stock spring at 2844 miles. It had a little spring left but it collapsed to nothing when I loosened the adjusting bolt today. It could have been out of adjustment by 3750 miles because I just adjusted it at 2000 miles..
Mike is a Great Guy and set me up 100% to complete this job quickly and easily. I'll post again with feedback for him but I wanted to get this pic of a 09 with no spring left @ under 3000 miles. ![]() Thanks Mike!! Matt |

At first blush, it seemed that this actually stopped the spring failures, but we've seen a number of them in the new bikes. Agreed, the proper fix is to buy a good-fitting doo from Mike and spring with proper tension! My vote always goes to the torsion spring, but the extension spring works too as long as you're willing to go in every 30K miles and throw in a smaller spring.
