Alright, alright I know I shouldn't have been fanning it quite so much off road. But now that I need to rebuild my clutch... who's done it and what kit did you guys buy from where? I realize that stock is fine, but if I want all the plates and springs the local shop wants over 2 bills. I've seen kits for much less. Anyone have a suggestion about one they found good for you.

I'm not questioning your veracity... just Kawasaki's pricing structure. And I suppose I have the option of pulling the clutch and seeing if I can get by with replacing just the fiber plates and reusing the alloy plates and springs. But when you see a whole kit advertised for little more than half of what the local dealer wants for springs and plates...
OK. Looks like I'm pulling down a little OT in the shed tonight. DanO

you DO NOT need to pull the driven hub...leave that nut along!!!
just remove the spring bolts, springs, outer plate, ALL STEEL and fiber plates, clean the mess, scuff the STEEL plates with scotch bright and start reassembling (oil the fiber plates first...and bear in mind the last fiber plate is in a different (shallow) spot on the drive hub...torque the spring bolts to 87 inch/lbs... this entire job should take about 30 minutes and if you lean the bike to the left a bit, you would not need to drain the oil...cleaning the gasket off and refilling the readiator will take most of the time... Ron Ayers has the friction plates for about $7.50 IIRC... wyman

Thanks for the advice Wyman. Actually, I've got a 2nd bike to ride while I work on this one. So I've gone ahead and drained the oil and coolant and started pulling the tank, exhaust, carb, etc in preparation for the 685 install. But I'll have this clutch sorted out and buttoned up before then.
