From the ground up...
Waterproof insulated hunting boots (600 grams thinsulate) insulated (also thinsulate, no idea how much but it ain't a lot)nylon coveralls. Very heavy leather bikers coat w/insulated liner. Hippo hands Thinsulate lined deer skin gloves. 100gram thinsulate lined mittens for really cold days hippo hands Neoprene face mask and of course a full face helmet. With all this I can ride without much discomfort as low as 25 degrees or so. Wait 'til the first time you have to keep reaching up to wipe the sleet off your faceshield. ![]() |

Great photo, Xtreme! And thanks for the block heater link, Scott.
For those of you who can't get a heated visor remember the Respro Foggy mask (google it) works pretty well. The Scorpion Winterhawk helmet comes with a very similar breath guard a along larger chin curtain and foam plugs to put into the helmet vents. This shot is in my '...Longer Colder...' ride report in my sig line. Yep, that's frost on my eyebrows. ![]()

Gerbings jacket liner,w/socks, gloves & Gerbings Union Ridge pants, with a dual controller.
Underneath Aerostich TLtech fleece, and topped off with a FirstGear Killimanjaro IV jacket. Cruiserworks boots. Yesterday 250 kms. anywhere from +5 to -2c. Totally comfortable for the entire jaunt. |

I use a Teknic Goretex suit, I think it was called the Cyclone, with Goretex boots and Ski-doo brand waterproof snowmobile gloves as the outer layer. For insulation I have numerous pieces of polypro, fleese and fill to choose from but find that my Arcteryx primaloft type pieces to be the best insulation. I just got one of their new Atom jackets and it is amazing how warm but light and packable it is. With my primaloft pants on with the Atom, it feels like I'm in my cozy sleeping bag.
I work on ski hills and play in the outdoors all winter, I use this stuff daily so cost is not as important.
