From a short ride today, somewhere north of Seven Springs, north of Cave Creek, AZ. I really like that new D606 in front. Its like velcro for the dirt (at 15 psi) and sticks plenty fine on pavement (at 32 psi), too.

I've already read somewhere about the pros & cons of hard luggage vs. soft luggage and I totally understand what you mean about watching where I'll put my feet. It is an excellent reminder! I intend to ride mainly on secondary/back roads for commuting & camping. I might do the odd gravel/unpaved road which will lead me to a camping site. I'm not really into offroading with the KLR, even though I know the bike can handle it well. I really appreciate what you wrote. It certainly educates me more for this purchase. Jesse's hard luggage system will be the one going on my KLR! Ed.

I also must add a word of caution regarding foot-dabbing and hard side cases. I have Givi hardcases for side bags and top case. I have caught the back of my booted foot/ankle/calf from foot-dabs to the pavement: very painful, but no fractures. I am CERTAIN that I could have sustained a fracture or serious contusion a time or two IF I'd had aluminum cases installed and/or had not been wearing proper MC boots. The Givi plastic cases are more forgiving, virtually waterproof, more aerodynamic and easy to pack. Highly recommended.

![]() Alvord Desert in Oregon - A note on the little 225 in front, one of the guys going on the trip has an old KLR600 he was going to be riding and at the last minute had carb. problems. He decided to take the 225 instead of not going... seeing Leo ride 1600 miles (with 800 on gravel) was something to behold! ![]() Riding our KLR's inside the Malheur Cave, Oregon After a walk to see the underground lake at the end of this HUGE cave, we wondered if the bikes would fit through the opening. Sure enough they did. I wonder how many other people have riden a motorcycle inside a cave? Old tree around Silver Lake, Oregon Ian was the only guy on a new style bike, and besides being heavy - it held up great! The originals and others can be found here: http://picasaweb.google.com/Naegling...eat=directlink

Riding the Cranberry Bogs in Cape Cod
![]() Organized rides are great, these cranberry bogs are usually off limits and heavily patrolled. Because it was a Toys for Tots ride a bunch of land owners gave us the green light. I sill got stopped and hasseled by the environmental police. ![]()

It's not a KLR...but, this "Desert Sled" Triumph (AKA: 'Trouble') is super cool. |
