Default Raising links. For what??

Can someone explain to me the benifits of raising links? I'm 6'3" and weigh about 200lbs. Would adding a pair improve my ride?

Raising links will decrease the leverage the rear swingarm has on the shock. On my bike, for example, the raising links allowed me to switch my shock preload from 5 with stock links, to 1 with the raising links. Since I'm going on a trip with a pile of luggage I can now increase my shock preload again to compensate for the gear. It was either that or a whole new shock.

Another option is to change the spring with a heavier one. I would warn against it as I have blown the dampener on shocks due to too heavy a spring. My recommendation would be to only change the spring if you are willing to have the shock re-valved.

To answer your question: Adding a pair will not change your ride, unless riding solo you are at max preload and have plans to either ride two up or with luggage.
