Default Rear Brake Brain Fart

Tonight I removed the rear brake, pads and pad spring. Now I can't figure out how to install the pads and pad spring. The Clymer is not much help. The bad thing is I have replaced the rear brake pads more than once and this time it has to be a PITA or I am totally dain bread.

How does the 'piston side pad' and the 'pad spring' mate or which side of the 'piston side pad' is the 'pad spring' supposed to be on?

I have renamed my KLR more than once tonight

Looks like I will not be MC commuting on Friday and I need it repaired for a Saturday morning ride.

ANY help will be appreciated.

Maybe this will help?

Make sure the outside pad is not bound up. I.E make sure they both engage the disc and you are good to go.

Thanks Scott. This is where I am confused. In this picture the pad sring 92081 looks like it is upside down. The center tab has to slide in the center groove. Where does the inner pad connect the pad spring? This is driving me nucking futs.

Isn't there any love out there Someone has to know how the pad spring installs. I know the inner pad has to sit against the piston. My question is where does the pad spring install to put pressure on the inner and outer pads to keep them aligned.

ANY help is appreciated.

I remember that I struggled with it too one time, and that the proper way for that spring to go in is about opposite of the way it appears it should go in.

Sorry not much help, but I am not near my bike.

I just happen to have mine apart. Here are a few pictures. Sorry, they are not that clear.

I don't know if this helps or not. Let me know and I can take some more pictures.

MLC, thank you very much. Now the factory picture makes since.

Out the door to catch a train to get home and put it back together.

Thanks again MLC, Michael and Scott.

Thanks MLC. Michael you were correct. 180 degrees of what I was trying to do.

The pad spring fingers grip the caliper housing and not the brake pad.

Got home and the rear brake caliper was mounted in less than five minutes. I had to apologize to my KLR for what I renamed it multiple times.

150 mile of back roads and some dirt for tomorrows group ride. 200 mile total trip.

Glad I could help.

We have all had those moments when a job just won't go right, even though you had it working in your hand not five minutes before!

Have fun on your ride. We had nice warm spring weather here, but now it is turning cold again, with SNOW possible in the near future! Crap.
