Thanks Fire44!! Got the scooters delivered home by Route66 transport last night. Keith is a classy dude and delivered a fair deal. The bikes are NOT in worse condition that we remembered so that was a relief! Mudboy commented on the surreal experience of seeing the bikes again, he said "it was like being at a bar and running into an old girlfriend!" ![]() |

So walking the KLR around in the garage this morning I noticed this terrible grinding sound... turns out it is coming from the rear hub. The Dalton silt must have gotten to it.
Is it worth taking apart and lubing it or should I just order a new set of bearings? If so, what set of sealed bearings have others had good luck with? |

Clean and lube the chain first that may be the problem and may save you some cash.

I'm still just looking at the KLR and not sure what to make of it. Perhaps I'll unload it and wash it. That should be a good start.

So I cleaned up mine... and then well proceeded to get it dirty again this weekend!!!
Did about 150 miles of dirt in NV with Dylan. Crazy dude is hanging out at my place waiting for a new final drive he ordered off of e-bay. The plan is to turn his GS into a boat and float down the Amazon later this year!!! ![]() So what now, should I clean it again? ![]() ![]() 9DA_8111 by 916Glass, on Flickr Last edited by KLR916 : 10-01-2012 at 11:40 PM. |

The KLR held up better than the GS on the rough dirt this weekend...
(BMW, broken luggage rack, broken windshield, broken muffler mount) ...but then Dylan reminded me that I have 12K on my KLR and he has 140K+ on his GS ![]() 9DA_8115 by 916Glass, on Flickr BTW, the Dunlop 606s are holding up ok but the fronts are really cupping and getting noisy. Not sure why, they are aired up 2psi below the max rating. Oh yeah, the KLR also wheelies better than the GS! |

You be the judge... KLR or GS?
![]() 9DA_8103 by 916Glass, on Flickr Faces blurred to protect the guilty! Professional riders on closed course, do not attempt this on dual sport machines at home! ![]() This thread is doing a number on my KLR's resale value! ![]() ![]() 9DA_8091 by 916Glass, on Flickr Mr. moderators? Can I shamelessly advocate that we put crop this pic and place it on the homepage banner? We need a good pic of a GenII wheelie machine in adventure setting! ![]() |

The KLR made it up the goat trail to the top of the mountain to look over pyramid lake... the GS needed a little help.
![]() 9DA_7964 by 916Glass, on Flickr So after all this GS bashing... why do I want to pick up one up as a stable mate for the KLR??? ![]() |

Because if you have the money (or the obvious time/expertise and sheer moxie of your guest) it's hard to beat the bmw....
