One is enough. You won't use all of it.

I'm assuming fork oil capacity is the same on the new models compared to the old.

Oil capacities are different. You will need 2 bottles. I think used about 1 and a quarter bottles to do my '09.

sorry all are wrong (except ColdOne)...the 08/09/10 take about 18-19oz of 5w fork oil PER fork...this means you will need three pints of fork oil....

set the oil level to 135mm from the top of the fork tube, after burping all of the air out of the damper rod, with the fork fully compressed...THEN install the Intiminators, springs and appropriate spacer length to achieve a 2.5-2.75" sag...

Thanks for all your help guys!!

Im trying to figure out if I will need one or two bottles to do this job before I tear my bike apart. (dont want to start and not be able to finish)

I currently have only one bottle, trying to figure out if that will be enough or if I have to purchase more to finish.

Looks like I will need two bottles according to Wymanwinn assuming 32oz per quart.

Yes, you'll need more than one quart of 5w fork oil for the '08 and newer bikes, but NO, you must install the Intiminators BEFORE measuring the 135mm oil level. To quote someone elsewhere on this site:

"'I've seen suggestions in this sub-forum to measure the oil level BEFORE you put the Intiminator in. This is incorrect. The shop manual calls for the oil level to be set with the spring, washer and spacer removed. The intiminator cartridge will of course displace oil when it goes in, so if you measure 135 THEN add it, your oil level will be way too high- 30 or 40mm I would guess. Again, with a tolerance of +/- 2mm, this would put you way, way out of spec."

you will need in the 08 and newer bikes about 18-19oz of 5w fork oil...about 15oz in older bikes...

and for the record JaiRam...i have installed many, many sets of Intiminators in both versions of the KLR using MY method...WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS...

the Intiminator IS NOT a cartridge...but is a VERY sophisticated valve...and i have them installed in my KLR using my method...

Glad to hear your personal installation procedure seems to work without problems. However, it is not the procedure recommended by RICOR in their printed instructions that come with the Intiminators, a copy of which is attached.

The experience of others on this and other forums concurs with the wisdom of this procedure. Just my 2 cents....'nuf said...

One other suggestion, when you set your sag, you may want to set it more than the minimum. At high speeds, the Intiminators seem to allow the front end to ride higher in the stroke than without Intiminators, which can give you a very light-feeling steering input and in some cases, a tendency to wobble.

While it's logical on the one hand to want to use as little sag as possible, in order to give the bike more fork more distance to move during compression, the Intiminators will control that compression far better than you've ever experienced. So, don't be afraid to set the sag a bit more than you may have done in the past.

I did mine according to the instructions and whatea know not enough sag. Then I looked at the instruction sheet and noticed it said Hardley Davidson - and took out alittle more oil until I got to what I wanted for sag. Wouldn't ya know it measures right at what the W-Man said ? Maybe he does know a few things...

It usually takes over half a liter on standard 2008 + forks.

I know these might be stupid questions, but I'm going to install intimidators tomorrow, and I'm not sure I fully understand the installation. I have an 09 bike. Do I need to remove the forks from the triple trees, or can I install the Ricors without removing the forks? Do you drain the oil using the drain plugs at the bottom of the forks, or do you have to remove the forks and tip them upside-down to drain them? How do you measure 170mm from filled, measure with steel rule down from the top of the fork? If the forks remain in the triple trees, the oil will not be level, how do you measure the oil level? How do you compress the shocks to remove the air, just push the handle bars all the way down while sitting on the bike?

Thanks for the help.

You have to remove the forks from the 08 and up bikes, they don't have a drain.
A tool like this one: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...FakZQgodAxShBw will make it easy to measure the fork oil.

Thanks for the information. I have never taken my forks off before. Are there any pitfalls to watch out for?

I am about to attempt an install next week. Can everything be kept on the forks? Or do you need to take the whole fracking front end apart...?

if you can change the front tire, removing the forks is easier....hint...loosen the top triple clamp bolts first, then using a 22mm socket loosen the fork cap THEN loosen the lower triple clamp bolts...this is assuming you have already removed the front wheel and possibly a fork brace....

wyman

AND DO NOT USE A WRENCH TO RE-INSTALL THE FORK CAPS....JUST YOUR HANDS...!!!!!!

I have already done the Progressive Suspension spring upgrade. Thought I had to loosen the top triple clamp bolts, so I was half way there.

What I meant with my question was, should I remove the tire and brake lines? Or can I do it all without that.

it is easiest to remove the front wheel and brake caliper to be able to slide the forks out of the triple clamps...then remove the now loose fork cap, drain and flush the old fork oil, add the recommended amount of 5wt fork oil, burp the fork, recheck level with the fork completely collapsed and install the Intiminators, springs and properly adjusted fork spacers for your sag....

Wow, I must have had a stroke... I kept thinking, "damn, I goto take the brake line off..."

Reading what you said I just about rushed to the hospital to get a brain scan... Duh... Haha

That should be very simple indeed. Thanks man!

Installs were straight forward and simple. Worth every penny. Keep in mind which side the brake line goes on the left fork. I only used half the bottle Ricor sells on each fork and everything is working fine. I NEVER RECOMMEND DEVIATING FROM INSTRUCTIONS. I just do it all the time...

Again, worth EVERY PENNY... These are by far one of the best upgrades!
