Default Incredible Anakee 3!

I put new Anakee 3 ties on my 08 KLR and have been very happy. I did a lot of research regarding the tires before my purchase. I have been riding different bikes for over 40 years. The transformation of handling and ride are truly remarkable on my KLR. The new tires have given the KLR handling like a sports bike in the curves and have performed remarkably well on dirt roads and gravel. The bike tracks very well on the roadway with no vibration. When I enter a curve I no longer have to compenate for drift. The tires stick to the ground.

This forum has been a vast source of information for me and I just wanted to share my thoughts on this new type of tire.

I believe you regarding that tire on clean pavement (the 80% portion). The question is, how is it on the remaining 20% (gravel, sand, mud)?

I was suprised by the handling on dirt and gravel. We have federal preserves for hunting in my area. I do not know who services the roads but they are terrible. I had used TW21 and TW22 on my bike in the past and find the Anakee 3's perform better on these roads. Their are numerous reviews out there regarding the new design and they seem to be accurate. I recently rode 3400 miles cross country with a mixture of roadway and dirt. I wish I had these on my bike then.

I have not used these in the desert or in severe mud.

Love my Anakee II's on pavement but they're pretty much terrifying off road,
gravel in particular. I haven't dared to venture past the gravel and I miss the trails.
Glad you're happy with your 3's in any event!

This weekend I'm going to pull the trigger for new rubber for my 2011. I was about 90% sold on the shinko 705's. have you used the shinko s and if so , how would you rate them vs the Anakee 3's ?

Yes there are a lot of tire threads on the forum. Not much regarding the Anakee 3 because they are relatively new.

May the force be with you and your Jedi skills.

Did you install them yourself? I understand they are very stiff. I'm looking at a set for my 2012, I have 2500 on the stock set and I think I might get another 1000 which would be sometime in Aug. I like to do my own work.

These tire do have stiff side walls which help in handling with heavy loads at high speeds. The stiff side walls make it difficult to get the tires to set on the rims.

I'll keep this in mind when I'm shopping for tires next year. My anakee 2 tires do alright for me, but I too take it easy when it comes to gravel.

There is also the Anakee 3 Wild for 50/50 service. Will be looking to put those on next.

As for the tubeless tire question - Gotta run a tube on a stock klr spoked rim but perfectly acceptable the use a tubeless tire. Supposed to adjust one speed rating down for the tube. Tubeless mostly means the bead will seal to a tubeless rim properly, and is a little harder to break the bead if you need to make a trail repair.

Looks like they will only come in nineteen inch for the front tire and 170/60 R17 for the rear. They may come out with additional sizes later.

Yep, I'm watching too. the size listed happens to fit my Wee nicely, and another reason to build a 19" KLR rim. NOt sure the rear would fit without rebuilding the rear wheel with a wider rim.

Favorite extreme tires are still D606 which work great and howl nicely on pavement.

Looks like the Anakee 3's come in both S rated and H rated format. Thinking the S rated tire will have a bit more forgiving sidewall for tube mounted applications?

Spooned a set of Anakaee 3's on my 2013 KLR yesterday. So far so good. Super confidence inspiring on the road, and surprising grip on the dirt county rides I ride.

I'm looking also to get a set of the Michelin's, what kind of tire life (mileage) have everyone been getting? I spend 90% road, 10% fire roads.

Thanks

Ah but they do. Your comment is the same as i hear when they first came out. I ran the original Anakee through Death Valley and only my lack of skills limited the bike. I was able to do pavement strafing, hard dirt, small gravel, deep loose gravel, then Sand, and Sand with hidden rocks. I've run a bunch of other tires since then to compare. I have no doubt the Anakee 3 will work well for most 70/30 dual sport riders. If one is going 30/70 - then there is the Anakee 3 Wild Version with actual knobs, similar to the TKC-80.

I need more riding time and a bigger budget for stacking up the miles
