i dropped her earlier today, i just couldn't resist the erge to go for a trail ride eventhough i KNEW i didnt have the proper tires, and sure enough i was going down a FN hill and the front tire decides to start sliding and there was nothing i could do, i was probably only going 10-15 mph the front tire just slid to the left and down she went, it broke the right side fairing, split it about 13 inches, needless to say i was made and used many curse words!!!

Hi, was riding at 13 and May I'll turn 54 sure are glad to here these youngsters in there 70's are still getting up from there falls. Have been riding the streets for the last 15 years. Have just purchaced an 07 KLR 650 the fast red one.In my younger years I rode the two strokes and was told they were made to ride on the rear wheel so I kept trying so I have no idea how many times I fell off. Does all the times those darn two strokes ran off and left me count?

I unfortunately dropped my Red KLR at least 6 times on the last ride. Sure gets heavy after the third time. Glad to see another old guy still riding. I am 55 right now. Too bad you are so far away. We could schedule a ride. I am in Southern California.

I took the klr out " trail riding" about a 2 months or so ago. Went with the guy next door (for those that came to my tech day you may remember he bought a new quad that day). It seems the trails we went on were harder than hell on a 4x4 quad. Mud , wet roots , rock , wet leaves and huge water holes were the " trails". In about 6 miles I dumped the bike no less than 8 times got stuck another 5 times and pushed the pig uphill about a 1/2 mile. Yea some fun. Then came the water hole. didn't look deep, compleatly sunk the bike. I stood up in the water and it was chest deep.To my suprise after I pushed the bike out of the " pond " It started up Wet , cold, tired and pissed of I rode home looking like hell. Now when the nieghbor calls I tell him no way unless I can ride his other quad.

Lets all get together ( not really , just pretend) and go outside and throw our bikes down.

I mean just slam em down on the ground! Hard!

Just for sake of KLR toughness!

KLR ok, back not. Dismounted on the right side or should I say the wrong side ,stepped back heel hit step weight over balanced and down we went. Now that cherry is popped.

Exclamation Re: Ever drop your bike?

I’ve never dropped a bike on the pavement, however I do like to push my KLR pretty hard off road and have had a few “incidents”. My dog rides in a box on the back and whenever I crash I just blame him.

HAHAHA. Of course I've dropped my bikes. I dropped the Ninja the first day I owned it, making a u-ie on grass to take a picture. The second time I "dropped" it, I hit a deer and totaled it.

I've dropped the KLR twice, once going up a steep dirt/loose gravel hairpin when I got off into a rain rut with the front, the second time was trying to turn it around on a steep, washed out gravel driveway without dropping it off the side of the hill. That one I just simply gave up on and let it go, since I was at a stalemate with my good leg downhill and the other sticking straight up in the air.

Only within the first few 4 hours of owning it.

...everyone said these bikes held up so well to being dropped!! Its not my fault!! I needed to see what would break right away from a little drop. That is my story, I am sticking to it. It was a stress test.

I should probably also mention that I had the SW-Motech crash bars installed, and the only damage I got was some light scratches to the handguard and bar end.

Default Re: Ever drop your bike?

You two who talked about hitting a dog & going down, just brought back a "supressed memory". Been so long I had completely forgotten about it till now. This happened when I was 18 years old, had just bought a brand new 1976 Yamaha DT400 Enduro, my first new motorcycle! I was on a canal road & buzzing along pretty good, puttting those stock trial tires to the test. Suddenly on a fairly long straight stretch, as I was opening up the throttle, it happened. There was tall grass (about 18") on both sides of the canal & fairly good size dog was hiding in it, flattening himself out & preparing for an ambush! And man did he ever get me! He jumped right out in an attempt to bite the front wheel, I guess, overshot & skidded just enough to slide under my front wheel. All in a fraction of a second.
Well, I think you know what happens in this situation. The back end of the bike flipped up, sending me airborne for a dozen feet or so, leaving me sprawled out on the gravel road, my bike laying to the side of me fairly close by, wheels still spinning as it lay on its side. (surprisingly little damage though, just a few scratches!)
I was not feeling so hot, was wearing my helmet, thank heavens, but my jeans were rather shredded in a few places, bit of scraped bloody flesh, but nothing broken or seriously injured.
As I lay there on the ground, still kind of dazed, this very large old woman, who was in the house nearby, walked up to me slowly, stopping just when she was standing directly over me. "So you hit him, did you?" She was really pissed, not that the dog attacked me, but that it was hit!
And by the way, I noticed before she reached me, that the dog simply got right up & trotted away, slightly shaken, but totally unharmed. I WAS the one laying sprawled out on the ground!
Not trusting myself to speak, I ignored her continuing verbal assault on me, stood up & dusted myself off, picked up the bike, got it started & rode away.
That was my most dramatic fall on a bike, unless you count the time in the forest a bear jumped down on the road in front off me (from an overhanginging embankment) & I had to lay the bike down on its side to keep from hitting it.
Oh, the joys of dual-sport motorcycles!

I have only had the KLR for two months and have not gone in the woods with it yet so I have not dropped in yet. I have been riding dirtbikes, dualsports, and street bike since I for a while. I have had minor mishaps on pavement but have had more than a few get offs in the woods. Only two trips to the emergency room so far, trees ALWAYS win!

Been riding offroad 30 yrs and have dropped many bikes many times with only 1 trip to intensive care courtesy of my first real dirt bike: a 1971 TM 400 SUZUKI. Had to lowside an XL 350 on pavement to avoid an old man in a pickup that pulled out, that was good for a trip to the ER. Have to agree with the gent that said you get better by testing your limits and crashing, I know more than a few of us still learn that way! 1TRAK
