Default Avoiding Storms and Chasing Colour in Scotland

I managed to escape for a few hours on Sunday and went North East to avoid the bad weather. Some very heavy storms about, and by luck I managed to miss them all, in several cases skirting round their edges by a few hundred yards.

This time is year is the most colourful in Scotland, with the heather turning whole hillsides purple.

Ruined steading in Glen Shee.

Recent rain and bright sun highlight the heather colour.

Glen Shee grazing land.

Scots Pine near Braemar.

Road through the Forest of Mar.

Forest ground cover.

Forest near Balmoral Castle.

Cairn on the road to Tomintoul.

Glen Fenzie.

Lost. Apparently.

Cromar Farmland.

Storms over Cromar.

Thanks for all the comments folks, much appreciated Scotland, although very small, does have some great roads for riding.

I use a Nikon D70 with a Nikkor 18-70mm lense and for the most part I also use a circular polariser and neutral density graduated filters to help bring out the colours and stop the sky from washing out.

Here's another one from this past Sunday - it rained a lot so I didn't commit much photography.

Castle Stalker.

Outstanding! I'm still playing with settings on a simple point & shoot digital, but I have a serious desire to shoot photos like yours. My goal is a RTW trip and an excellent camera will be at the ready for capturing the memories. Thanks again for the great photos and insight for your equipment.

I want to see something green besides cactus!
