Default Wrench day in Woodbridge - Sat 3/31?

I live in Woodbridge VA, near the South end of Minnieville Road near Rt234...and know we have some folks close who need to do some work on the KLR, and might desire some help, or just need a place to do some work. I can offer waste oil disposal, basic tools, and I can help with valve checks, oil changes, brake pad replacement and a cooler/ice and a gas grill.

Thinking of Sat, March 31, say from 0900-1300ish.

Two MC shops are within 30 min roundtrip drive if last minute parts needed (Motorcycle Factory and Colemans Powersports). Both these shops will free/swap valve shims by the way...very nice! A weeks notice gives you time to order any parts needed (I like Rocky Mountain ATV - quick ship and good prices).

If you post your interested...and "in", I'll PM the address as we get close. Rain or shine is fine.

Hey, welcome back from the big D!

Re: shims...Nope...was surprised to find out the nearby dealers both "free swap" shims...Can't get any easier than that!

I can't make it Mar 31, either. Steel, what day can you make it? Faw, how about Apr 7 instead?

The 31st sounds good, thanks for hosting I can bring dead meat for the grill. I'd like to flush the engine coolant and install a SS brake line. Any ideas on the coolant type required? On the 7th there's a poker run, door prizes and free barbeque during the grand re-opening of the VA Pistol shop in Linden VA.

I will hold this one as posted on Sat, March 31st., 0900 to say 1300ish.

By the way...I have an 2007. So my limited knowldge and Clymer book are on that version...

Speaking of flushing the coolant, how does one dispose of the flush water?? I know the used coolant can be brought to a recycling center, but what about the water?? Its not clean after being used to flush a radiator.

I'm definitely in. I was going to crash a BMW Horse Country ride near Middleburg but I need to do some work before I head to New Jersey for the Pine Barrens 300 on 13-14 April.

I will be spooning on a new rear tire (Shinko 244), adjusting my handlebars/brush guards, check/replace brake pads if necessary, and adjust my chain. Then do a general clean up and fastner tightening. May want to try lubing my cables as I have the lube and device but haven't done it yet. I also have an electrical problem with my GPS and cradle. Keeps losing external power and switching to internal battery. I can only get a few hours on internal battery before she shuts down and that won't work for the PB 300 as it will be all self-guided with the GPS tracks.

FWIW: I rode the sidecar rig down to Daytona Beach and back last week. Flogged that bitch on 95 the whole way doing 65-70 mph actual. Handled well and had little if any oil burning. Only down side other than the rain was extremely crappy gas mileage. I was just under 30 mpg at that speed with a sidecar full of camping gear.

Let me know if I need to bring anything special in the way of tools, food, or drink!

I have all the basic hand tools: such as metric wrenches both 1/4 & 3/8 drive ratchets and fixed wrenches, hex/allen wrenches, torque wrench in 3/8 drive, volt meter, crimpers, tire spoons, air compressor, etc.

We can be in garage so rain/shine not an issue.

I was thinking of brats on the grill perhaps...something simple but good. I'll have a cooler and ice ready for any donations.

Have a collector for waste oil, coolant and such and can easily dispose of so no worry about carrying it out with you.

Location soon to be sent by PM for all who posted "in".

faw, thanks for hosting. As usual my projects start out as straight forward and morph into the complex. I was originally just going to mount a new rear tire and do some minor stuff. My sprockets were hosed so I fortunatley brought a set and a new chain with me in case someone else might need them! Did all that and then replaced rear pads that were beyond shot. Rounded out the day by eating my weight in braughts. Still lots to do but I feel good about what we did acomplish.
