Default Problem kick starting 89 klr250

New guy to the forums here. Also new to motorcycling in general. Recently I purchased my 89 klr250. I've been riding quads for 22 years so I have some experience in the offroad world. I'm having a problem with my kickstart. I'm six foot 180lbs, but I can't kickstart my bike while sitting. I literally have to jump with all my weight on the lever. I have adjusted the valves and i bring the flywheel to TDC every time. It always starts on the first kick and runs great. What do Ya'll think could be causing this immense stiffness?

Is there a way to see if the kacr is working correctly?

You need to pull the valve cover. On the right side, at the end of the camshaft is the compression release.

There should be a small spring to hold the weights in. Yours is missing or broke.
