Default Maintenance Help/Recommendations

Hello,

Myself and 2 friends are leaving for a 7 month motorcycle trip from Amsterdam to Indonesia this May.

We have each owned our KLR's for roughly 8 months. We have been working avidly to get the bikes prepped for our trip, but would greatly appreciate any help/recommendations on what we should each do.

If there is anyone around/near Boulder, CO that would be willing to take a look at our bikes and give some advice it would be greatly appreciated, beer and pizza is on us.

Michae

Hi Michae,

Sounds like you and your friends have a great adventure laid on!

There are a lot of people here that would love to help out and give you their best advice.. But, maintenance issues can be particular to what year KLR you have & how many miles it has on it.. So. let us know what you got & how far it's gone and I'm sure you'll be overwhelmed in no time with things to do to your bikes to prepare!

Good luck!

Ok, so when? Are you looking for general overall maintenance tips and advice, or are you talking first hand knowledge of what to take, set up and so on?
I'm in Thornton, about 30 minutes from Boulder, give or take. Available evenings on Tues. and Thurs, and weekends with prior planning.
Let me know, and lets see who else may be up to it.

Our bikes are: 2011 with 10,000 miles, a 2007 with 12,000 and a 2003 with 33,000.

We're looking for as much advice/help as we can get; from what mods we should consider to someone nearby like kawioops to have a tech day. Ultimately it'd be great to have someone who can ride, listen, or tinker around on our bikes to tell us what may or may not be problematic.

We ship the bikes to Amsterdam on April 1st, so the sooner the better.

Have you even done the balancer Mod? (AKA, Doohickey) If not, then definitely that for the 07 & 03.

I'm in Longmont. I'd be happy to help inspect and recommend some routine maintenance or upgrades. These bikes are very straight forward. Can't help with the trip planing part though. Wish I was going, sounds like a lot of fun!
