Default Ad-Hoc KLR tech day June 18th

Just because I need it (and no better reason), I'll be having a mini-tech day at my place on June 18th, 10am-ish.

My KLR needs new steering head bearings and races, and I've got the parts and tools needed, but I don't have a pair of working shoulders right now.

We will supply pizzas and maybe some other snacks, but it won't be a typical grilling session unless attendance looks worth it.

I would really appreciate some help while I'm still injured. I know there were some offers (on FaceBook, mostly) to come help, but I'd like to know that I can expect someone.

I've met me, and I know me well enough to know that if no one shows up, I'll do the work myself and will most likely make my shoulder worse. Some of you have met me too, and you know I'm stupid that way.

Thanks, Alan. I've also got a guy bringing a KLR down to get diagnosed. He has some odd noises that might be doo- or cam-related, so I told him we'd open it up and see what's going on in there.

Should be a hot day, so we'll have sodas and beer on ice. Food as needed.

I may or may not be able to show up, but coincidentally I might need some opinion on latest potential issue:

my fan goes on for only about 15-20 seconds at a time, and didn't seem like it was on at all last time I was riding around. wondering if its time to replace the fan switch:

Hmmm... If in doubt, you could swap the switch and that shouldn't be too expensive. Maybe that's normal behavior, though. Never paid enough attention to mine.

I've suggested a judicious application of Sea Foam just to make sure it isn't a dirty carb/fuel problem. I suspect fuel more than a cooling issue.

A Canuck with a motor problem might be stopping in also, since his bike isn't running well on his way back to Canada from Mexico.

We'll have some snacks and drinks on ice for Saturday's little tech day. Couple of pizzas in the freezer if needed. The Canuck's bike may or may not yet have the parts needed for wrenching on, so we'll see.

I started to dismantle my KLR's faring and instrument panel, but I ran into so much of the cumulative wiring that I've added over the years that struggling with it wore my shoulder out and I had to quit. I think we can get to the steering bearings, but we might still have to muddle with some of that wiring to get the upper triple tree off.
