Default SgtMarty Colorado KLR tech day May 20, 2017

Okay, most of my schedule is locked up this Spring, so the only safe date for me to host a tech day is May 20th. That's plenty of advanced notice for those of you who have broken or lost a bunch of crap and need help figuring it all out.

I hope everyone knows how much I enjoy hosting these tech days, and how much I appreciate those who show up to work together and help each other out.

I haven't ridden much since last Spring when I separated my shoulder, so it'll be nice to get back out and ride this year.

Details will be up soon at SgtMarty dot com.

If anyone has spoke torque wrenches, please chime in. Guy wants to lace up some wheels at the tech day.

I'm getting back on mine after a year off, need to tweek the suspension. I'll probably haul mine and can bring a few lifts if needed. I have room for another bike if anyone needs a lift from Denver

I've got two lifts in the garage, plus the wood stand. Happy to have another if that's easy.

Looks like I am closing on a house the 19th. So will not be making this event. Maybe in the Fall.

Is a clutch replacement something that would be considered a tech day project, or is it too big an endeavor?

Nope, we've done as much before. Hell, we've done 685 kits on one bike, and complete removal of both sidecases (Doo and oil screen cleanout) and the swingarm on another.
But get there early.

So... I had a number of people contact me regarding their weather concerns for Saturday. I feel for those of you who are coming from far away, but the weather here for the 20th doesn't look bad enough to postpone the tech day. It'll be a cool day, to be sure, but only 10% chance of precip for the day. I'll try to get the space heater working.

If the forecast gets worse, I'll reconsider. I just don't want to make a late change for those who are making their own plans to be here.

I myself have never replaced a clutch before, but I think we have the tools and ability to get it done. Bring your own parts and oil.

As a Dual Sport/Adventure rider, I'm not letting a spring storm stop me. I don't think the weather will be bad enough to ice the roads overall. I could be wrong, but that's why I invested in good gear!
But I'm an experienced foul weather rider, so I wouldn't encourage others if they haven't the experience in the saddle.
We just need to keep checking that weather forecast, after all, it's wrong 60% of the time!!

I'm still planing on hauling mine but now I can blame the weather. It's really just not much fun to ride on the highway as low as it's geared. Have room for another if anyone needs a cool motor when they get there.

We got 8" of snow yesterday, but it's almost gone already. Melting away fast. Roads and driveway are already clear.

I expect Saturday to be cold in the morning, then in the 50's through the day, so... cool but likely clear. Be careful with the deer and slick roads in spots if you're riding down. If you're trucking or trailering down, move your vehicles back to the street after unloading, please.

We'll have coffee and cocoa ready in the morning. If the big garage door is down, it's because we're running a heater inside. Come on in the pedestrian door next to the vehicle door. If anyone is staying over Saturday night, let me know as soon as you decide.

As to cooking, we'll improvise as needed, depending on what food shows up and what grills are running. If necessary, we'll heat/cook food in the kitchen. It'll work our regardless. We'll have pizza and brats on hand, just in case.

Anyone who shows up early can call dibs on garage space, right after helping me move our bikes and prep the garage. Just sayin'...

Hey! I futzed with my space heater and got it running, so the garage is warming up. Don't have a lot of gas, though. Coffee and hot water will be on by 9am.

Okay, we only worked on one KLR (subframe drill-through bolt). Most KLRs Graham re-did all the hydraulics on his V-Strom, Richard did a lot of prep on his DRZ, getting ready for his ride across Canada. Laurie's XT225 got it's carb cleaned out. SnowMule Mike added another phase of custom graphics on his sled.

I think we'll see a lot more KLRs get wrenched on in September.

Thanks to those who brought food and beverages, and to those who helped others out.

Pretty light day, which made cleanup a breeze (for a change).
