It looks like this thread hasn't been updated much lately so I thought I'd add in what little info I have.
I just did Engineer on July 9th and it was good to go. Snow on the sides in a few spots and some puddles, but otherwise fine. I assume everything on the Alpine Loop is good to go as well since I saw tons of people heading toward Cinnamon Pass and Animas Forks.

I spoke with someone who was up at Ophir Pass a week or two ago and he mentioned that he saw someone trying to plow through snow on an Adventure 990, so I'm not sure if Ophir is good yet or not.

Here is a shot from Engineer.

I understand Tincup pass is closed due to high water at mirror lake on the Tincup side of the pass. Don't know about the possible snow on top. Lake has the road underwater due to snowmelt runoff.

I heard yesterday that Ophir is good to go. No surprise... I guess it got plowed this spring. I hadn't realized they did that. Awfully nice of them to sacrifice a snowplow so we can play.

My friend Bud came up from Texas last week and we went over Tincuop pass on fully loaded KLR 605's. I would not reccomend this to even the most experienced of riders. It was extremely rocky and of course we did it in the rain, so it was very slick. We hung out in Tincup for a while then went to Jackson Resevoir and down inot gunnison where we were priveleged to meet Sam Correro, trail blazer of the Trans America Trail.

I assume most of them are open now. I was over tincup and hancock a couple of weeks ago. I haven't heard anything about pearl and it's one of the last to open if it does.

What is the status of some of the passes this year? I am in Oklahoma so I have no idea what the weather has been like there. I plan to ride out there June 1.

Ophir, Owl Creek, Kebler open now. I suspect with the light winter we had and the warm spring, you'll be good to go on many passes.

I drove up over Grand Mesa. It's open of course but froze my everything off. I'm a new rider on this type of bike and have a lot to learn. I have a pretty bad vibration and I know it's coming from the engine. At 60mph I throttle down and pull the clutch in and the vibration goes away. Go back to power and at 4k rpm it's back. Can't hardly see anything in the mirrors they shake so bad.

Any riders in the Grand Junction area welcome to chime in. thks!

Have you done the doo? If not, that could be the source of the vibrations.

Cumberland was still closed last weekend as was tincup. Had about 2 feet of snow for about 11/2 miles from the top on the North side of Cumberland and snow before you got to the lake on tincup. It was fun playing in it anyway.

It's a 2005 with 8300 miles. Pretty much all stock and not maintained like I would like it. Not abused though but just need to catch up on a few items.

Could be a ton of stuff. I'd do the Doo (Chain Tension) adjustment, then just start checking everything, wheel balance to engine. I'd also start looking in the Tech sections, you'll get more help.

Send me a PM if ever coming to Gunnison.

I appreciate the info. I'm learning new stuff every day. I'll get to the trip I took but first took the chain off to clean so it could be properly lubed. It was so crusted over it didn't look like a chain. I knew I had to reinstall with a masterlink so I make the trip to Kawasaki and none works..not even from the exact manufacturer of the chain. I then figured this chain was so stretched that the links were out of round by just a few thousands and the 520 link would not fit. Bought a new chain. Then took a 100+ mile trip through Escalante Canyon and then up to Uncompadre National Forrest Then back to Delta. Awesome ride. I'm so excited I found a new love at my age, 55. What a blast.

I get that! I'm 53, and the KLR really helps me focus. It also helps me be a better rider on my big cruiser. I have a guy coming in to work for me on Monday's at 2:00 so I can get out and ride. Today I'm headed south to check out the roads from Sawtooth to 114 to Los Pinos Pass, Powderhorn and back.

Thinking the chain fix helped?

i'm thinking/hoping Mosquito Pass (15 miles /13,198 feet) and Weston Pass (26.5 miles /11,955 feet) are free of snow by now, but does anyone know the road condition these days?

i did Weston Pass last year and it was duable loaded with camping gear, next Sunday i was going to try Mosquito. (one issue is that it will later in afternoon maybe 3-4pm would that be too late to attempt it?) btw are those 2 the only options coming out of Leadville going east toward Denver?
