Toroweap has been on my list of "must see" places, so this sounds awesome. I am pretty sure I can make it out for this. Might combine it with a Moab run, camp at Muley Point (my favorite) and then go up to Moab for a day or two, ride the WRT and maybe ride into Colorado a bit.

Thanks Jesse for putting this together.

Default Re: "Utah Tuweep (Toroweap) Ride May 14-16"

Here's a few pictures of Toroweap of the Grand Canyon National Park. This ride is amazing. The plan for the ride in May will include some 200 miles or so. The following pictures were from a trip I took in the spring of last year. Hope this gets people excited about coming out Southern Utah for a great ride.

Here's the bike loaded and ready. Im packed with a tent / sleeping bag and enough just for two days and one night. I drove south into St.George and toped the tank off.

As you can see the roads are graded and well maintained. 50 to 70 mph no problem also notice I started around 2700 ft.

Were riding through the Arizona Strip. Its a very large area managed by the BLM.

The whole trip is between 5000 ft. and 7000 ft.

The roads are well marked we are heading to Mt. Trumbull with a stop to the school house along the way. Black Rock will take you into Mesquite Nevada another great ride. Pakoon Basin is a area I have not explored yet. I do know that there is an abandonded mine and equipment in that area but round trip you will be looking at almost 400 miles. So you need to pack gas. So when your ready let me know. Im in.

Mt. Trumbull School house has a lot of history. Infact it has been refurbished after a fire. and is open to take a look inside.

A look inside and you can read all about the history for the area and what it was used for.

Next we ride up and over Mt. Trumbull on the way to Toroweap.

On the way up the mountian you enter the Grand Canyon National Park and they do have rangers on the mountian to make sure everything is cool.

Below is the area we just rode thru. Out on the flat is the school house. You can see the road in the distance.

Towards the top you start to get into some pine trees. Alot different from the desert below.

But don't worry the parking is easy. I rode up Early April of last year and still snow on the side roads. In fact the rangers cabin was still closed for the winter.

Alot to see on Mt Trumbull but moving on. On the way down their is an interesting site to see called Nampaweap. It might be a stop if some want to go. Its a canyon full of Indian writing it is quite the sight to see

Here's a couple of photo's of many I took.

If we do decied to go their. I would suggest to take some shoes to hike in. 1/2 mile each way. I did it in mid high motorcycle boots and it was no fun.

Back down off the mountian the road is back to fast and smooth. We are heading south again towards the Grand Canyon.

Here the offical sign into the Grand Canyon. Since this is a national park you do need to have a licensed and Insurance bike.

Sorry to leave you hangin. but I will post the rest of the pictures as soon as I can. Got to take care of some family stuff.

After entering the park its still 13 or 14 miles to the rim. Here's a few pictures of the rim.

This is a picture directly off the edge. At the bottom you can see 4 rafting boats on the shore for the night. I was there that evening by myself and you can hear their voices from the top. Its 3000 ft to the botom.

This was my camp spot for the night. Camp #7

Here's the view from my campsite. They have two bathrooms at the campsites.
no water. This morning I will be taking the ride back home. The nerest gas station from this point is around 65 miles. I did a total of 225 miles for this trip and had no problem fully loaded for the trip. Its actually a very easy and fast ride with graded roads. I ran into a few trucks along the road and everyone was friendly and wanted to chat.
In May the days will be in the 80's at this elevation and the nights in the 50's so it should be perfect for riding.

Hope you enjoy the pictures and plan on coming out to the Grand Canyon in May. More details will come as we figure things out. between Jesse and Myself (Lonny) We can accomidate alot of vehicles on our properties. So well see what the turn out is and go from their.
Anyone is welcome to ride and Hope to see ya.

Rode to Toroweap via Colorado City. Road were a bit slick in spots but 90% smooth sailing. Probably averaged about 55 mph all the way there in the dirt. Roads should be perfect in May. The mountains had a bit of snow but will be melted by May. Awesome views! I will post pics on Monday. Route planning is well underway. Saturday will be a FULL day of scenic riding with the majority of it on back country dirt roads ending at Toroweap and setting up camp.

The ride went well, Lonny and myself did a quick run out to Toroweap.
Roads weren't too bad after the rain.

Default Southern Utah Ride Saturday April 3rd

Southern Utah Ride Saturday April 3rd

Anyone want to ride?

I want to start around 8 or 9 and be done by 4 at the latest.

I would like to start from the Main Street Cafe in Hurricane. Have
breakfast then ride.

Route TBD.

Possibly: Gunlock Veyo Enterprise or Mt Trumbull or Zion or Kanab.

I just want to put in some miles and try to have most of them be in the
dirt.

Let me know if you are interested!
