Here's a map of the planned ride for the Grand Canyon Tuweep portion of the ride.
Total ride For the two days is 205 miles. The longest distance between gas stations is 160 miles. Should be a great ride.
Here's the Link

Kawiski,
You bet its on. We have the group site reserved at the rim, were good for 12 riders at the group site. The rest of the sites are non reserve first come. When it gets closer well start making a list of names. It will be a great ride hope to see there.

Good to hear that the ride is still on!
I got OKed from my Mrs, got PTO days from work, bike is ready, etc.
But I am looking for one or a couple of other riders who's willing to truck/trailer our bikes together from So Cal to the staging area in Utah.

Is anyone out there in So Cal who wants to go for this awesome ride ?!

Hello,
I got your PM and figured I would respond here for the benefit of everyone else.

I will be driving back to Utah Thursday afternoon and returning to California Sunday night or early Monday morning (depending on everyone's work schedule). I have room for three bikes and three riders. All I am asking is that I don't have to drive out of my way to pick anyone up. We can meet up anywhere along the 15 Freeway or meet me at my office in Temecula and leave from there.

Thanks
Jesse

Hello Jesse,

Please book me up!

I will be at your place in Temecula or, if you prefer, you can pick me up any place along the 15 fwy near 91 or 60 intersection. I can return to Calif either on Sunday night or Monday. I am flexible.

I have a buddy of mine who's really interested in this ride. He may join us trailering the bike toghere since you have extra space in your rig.

Thanks for your generosity!

Folks who have already ridden the planned route...

I have 2 dual sport bikes and I am wondering which one would be a more suitable for this ride. I've never done this Tuweep ride and I need your opinion.

1. 2002 Kawi KLX400R (same as Suzie DRZ400S). Great on dirt, has enough gut to chase the 650s on wide open dirt road and will dust them when going gets tough on dirt. But will be certainly left FAR behind on pavement. It signs off at about 65 max... Has a 14-tooth counter sprocket and an aftermarket fuel tank that gives me about 175 miles inc reserve.

2. The other is a 08 KLR. It weighed about the same as my 400 in below form. Acually, I was in process of installing updated rings (what else?!). Now all put together and ready for a ride.

Let me know which bike would be a better choice!
Thanks guys.

Chaz

Keep in mind the total trip is 160 miles between gas stations Minimum. You'll need to carry extra gas for exploring and such. Also you need to carry your own overnight gear. sleeping bag food water ect....The 400 would be fun to ride but hard to carry your gear. The larger would be better on the roads becuase we do have 50 miles of pavement to do.
That's my input

I am riding an 09 KLR650.
I agree with Lonny on the carrying of the gear issue too.

Thanks

Jesse,

Do you still have a space avail in your rig for another rider/bike?
A buddy of mine with a '08 KLR says he's interested in joining this ride and wants to know if you still have a space avail. His name is Bill Heath and lives in Glendora. He used to race AMA series in 70's, District 37 heavy weight expert #17 plate. Yea, he's retired now but he can still ride on dirt, fast. He and I can ride to your Temecula place or meet along the I-15 fwy near 90 or 60.

Please let me know. Thanks.

For those of you who can arrive Thursday night or early Friday we will be doing approximately 100 to 150 miles of local trails. We will see Ancient Indian Art, Caves, Pioneer Forts, and Dinosaur Tracks.

Friday May 14th Alternate Route:

For those of you who may want to spend a bit more time on the pavement, Zion National Park is a 25 minute ride from Hurricane Utah.
A ride through Zion would be a great alternate route for Friday.

I need to know more details of the trip so that I can prepare the right stuff.
This will be my FIRST bike camping trip and also the FIRST trip to this area, and I need to know some details.

1. What would be the typical day time & night time temp?
2. Is a tent mandatory for overnight camping or just sleeping bag OK?
3. I know we will have to bring own food for Sat dinner. Does that mean we will have to bring own cookware? Is that the only time we will be cooking?
4. Should I wear reg riding boots or MX boots?
5. Do you recommend a full-face helmet or open MX type?

If someone posts a "Things-to-Bring" list, it would be great.

Any advice/tip for a first-timer would be very much appreciated as well.
Thanks guys!

Chaz

I will get back to you on this one. It should be warm day and night.
2. Is a tent mandatory for overnight camping or just sleeping bag OK?
Tent is only needed if it rains, however I am bringing one.
3. I know we will have to bring own food for Sat dinner. Does that mean we will have to bring own cookware? Is that the only time we will be cooking?
I am bringing some cookware for saturdays meal. We may have someone driving out to the campsite and if so they will bring a bbq setup and food for everyone.
Make sure that you can carry plenty of water!!
4. Should I wear reg riding boots or MX boots?
Most of the ride is in the dirt and I prefer MX Boots, but you will be fine either way.
5. Do you recommend a full-face helmet or open MX type?
I prefer a MX Helmet and Goggles on this ride. It is dusty and dirty and you will scratch your nice full face shield wiping it off.

If someone posts a "Things-to-Bring" list, it would be great.

Any advice/tip for a first-timer would be very much appreciated as well.
