And BTW, we now have a 2008 KLR Clymer manual on hand, thanks to a generous donation from a local KLR guru.

If I am still in town I will definitely be there! I might decide to replace my weeping base gasket, and if I do it would be wonderful to have some help!

However, I'm just passing through on my RTW trip and I'm not certain I will be in town that long. The 10th is about a week longer than I planned on sticking around.

If I do drop by, any chance I could setup my tent in your yard the night before and/or after?

Absolutely. Better than that, we can find a bed for you inside the house where the bears won't be as curious about you.

If you need to pass through earlier, let me know and we'll open the garage for you. I have lots of tools on hand.

Thanks for the offer of a bed!

I'll know in the next couple of days what my schedule will be and I will get back to you. I'd love to drop by even if I do leave before the tech day!

I'm doing a thorough cleaning and some maintenance over the next day or two. After that is done and I get out on a test ride I'll have a better idea on what my schedule is, and if I want to replace that base gasket.

It occurs to me, if I do get itchy to be on the road earlier, I may just ride out to south-west Colorado for a few days and loop back to your place for the tech day.

I'll let you know for certain my plans in the next few days....

Thanks,

David

I'm hoping I can make it. Need to find out why this thing crashes so much. Bad gyroscope? Maybe do an L mod while I'm digging into it, get some advice on a couple other things that have me perplexed. Maybe change out my t-stat on thermobob.

I will definitely be at the tech day and I will plan on arriving the night before.

I need to repair one of my footpeg bolts (stripped and barely holding on). Any chance of a M8x1.25 thread repair kit I could use, or should I buy one? I'm tempted to put in M10 bolts (I have a centerstand), but I hesitate to cut open the footpeg box to weld in the new nuts.

Thanks,

David

Is this going to possibly turn in to a two day deal????

My Saturday morning is tied up. I can make up there in the afternoon. All I want to do is see everyone and maybe put in the upgraded sub frame bolts.

Looks like I can make this one. I'll try and drag a couple of buddies as well. My bike could use a valve check and i have one friend that still needs the doo. See you guys there.

No need to bring tools; just bring your oil, Doug. Mike will ship your parts to you or to my place. I have gaskets and other minor parts on hand, too, so don't worry about that stuff.
I'm going to pick up the oil this week. I was using Kawasaki 20w50, I just switched to Mobil One 15w50. The dealer just did a warranty oil leak repair, and put in Castrol non syn. 10w40. I'm going to bring Mobil One, unless you have a better idea. I see Wyman uses Mobil One. See You Saturday

I have those 8mm bolts on hand, as well as a re-thread kit. I've done the cut-and-replace job on the captured nuts, and it is stronger than repairing the 8mm threads. I don't think I have any 10mm hardware. Be advised that if you just drill and tap the threads out to 10mm, you will essentially drill-out the tiny capured nuts and there won't be anything left.

Hmm, I may just come with 10mm hardware if you have experience and expertise already to help out, it would leave me with more confidence in that centerstand setup. I agree I don't want to drill/tap to 10mm.

Sure, bring the hardware. I've done the upgrade of three KLRs, and my welding isn't pretty, but we can get it done.

I am trying to get the hall pass for this, but I am wondering if it would be possible to do these two tasks on my 00
Doo - I have the parts
valve check - My issue here is not know what shims to have with me unless you might have a varied set I could buy from you.
Thoughts?

I dropped by AAA Metric today and got a set of M10 flange bolts, fine thread for the increased strength (1.25 pitch) and matching nuts. I was warned we will need to grind the plating off before welding the nuts, but that should be easy enough.
