I haven't ridden a 2010 or 2011, so I can't tell you much about that particular model.

I do love my 2008. For the reasons I ride (commuting to work, Sunday rides, etc), it does it all well. I did find the seating position a bit cramped, but peg lowering blocks and a handlebar riser fixed that. Now it's perfect for me.

I have no regrets. All I really want now is a short winter...

I wanted the 2010 Versys, but did't want to spend that kind of money on my first bike, first time riding, so I went with a used 2003 KLR650. I think eventually I may go to the Versys but it'll depend on the conditions I encounter touring this upcoming summer an next, and see what I really enjoy. Congratulations on the purchase.

The 650 Versys is a great bike, all around, but it was made for road use, and asphalt or pavement is what it was meant to be on. It has the handling and the performance of a sport bike, being based on the 650 Ninja with slightly less horsepower but better mid-RPM-range torque, in other words a more "street" friendly engine, and provides the upright seating comfort of a touring bike, altogether a very nice combination. It gets high marks for design, engineering and build quality, and for what it is and for what it does, you will NOT find a better bike for the money.

Let me add that you will do well, when breaking a new Versys in, to stay within the RPM limits which Kawasaki insists upon for break-in, 4,000 RPM for the first 600 miles and then after that 6,000 RPM for the first 1,000 miles. That works really well, and that also gives you time to get used to the bike, too.
