Default KLR mechanic shop in Edmonton

Hi
I am looking for good and reasonable shop in Edmonton. Just got surprised by my KLR 650 dealer when a quote came out double the price and quality of job was questionable I find. I am new to bikes so I am looking for tips where I can safely and reasonable bring my KLR.
Thanks
Felle

you never got a response, i donno if ur still looking... i suppose the best way to do it is to do it all yourself... I lost all faith with any and all mechanics and especially dealerships. where do u go riding around edmonton on a warm day? i recently also purchased a klr650, but donno anyone else with one.

Hi Ecip
Good to hear from a rider in Edmonton. I had lots of trouble this year, basically took the bike out too early and got a flat and then again after the roads were cleaned, again a flat. That sucks. Because of travelling and other commitments i havent been out that much. if i drive in Edmonton I drive River Valley and south side. A bit further east in Elk Island but mostly in the mountains, biggest trip this year was to Kimberley BC, what a ride, great.....

I am new to bikes but am committed to do more by myself, studying the Clymer I guess.

Where are you riding? Probably we can meet up one day....

just around the city, hoping to go out to floating stone this weekend.

that's my dilemma too, I picked up a flat 2 weeks ago, due to work and having no time and no one having the parts i needed I was only able to repair it Sunday.

What the hell is it with flats on this bike? lol... or is it just us.

You guys need to get together and pool your resources and do all your work yourselves. I have a brother in Prince George and he tells me horror stories about poor quality workmanship and sky high prices up there. He comes down to the states and saves all his maintenence til he gets here, and orders new tires (cheap) and we install em here for free. You guys can do the same and you'll see maintenence is about all these bikes need, and you can do it at home with great results.
With some creativity you can find mailorder deals for cheaper parts too.

Now my brother would never let the average mechanic near his bike. You will be the same in no time. In a short time you'll get a reputation, and YOU will become the 'local expert'.

I am a new klr rider in Beamont . Just order kit and tools for the do replacement. have changed my own tires we should get together for a tech day. I'm a heavy duty mechanic so I'm not afraid to tackle any project on my bike.

I have a doo with tools and a 16 tooth sproket to be installed. If you havent finished yours yet perhaps two heads would be better than one.

I definitely think everyone that wants to do the doo should get together sometime in the spring. I'll bring the beers.

Hmmmm, never noticed this thread until now.

I'm located north of Edmonton. Have done about a dozen "doo's" and have the tools.

Don't bother buying any case gaskets. I have a spare set of gaskets available for emergency should anyone need them. Deal is you replace the gaskets if you use them. I would recommend you buy a replacement rotor bolt from Kawasaki though.

I have also installed a Thermo-Bob, adjusted valves, 22 cent carb mod, cleaned oil screen and have done the swing arm bearings. I am a Millwright by trade and working on bikes is a hobby. Currently semi-retired.

So if there's anything you need help with let me know. Also have access to a tire changer and decent pricing on tires.
