Bought Tech 3s. Now I have to break them in... So I'm wearing my new boots around the basement whenever I can. I got raising links as a christmas gift so I plan on putting those on as well. Also watching kijiji for used riding pants and other random gear.

Nothing too extreme.

....also hoping that the bike doesn't shatter if I happen to touch it in the garage tonight or tomorrow.

Yup! Speaking of shatter,I thought my hands would, after changing the (dead) battery in my Jeep! And wouldn't you know it,the old F-150,which hasn't been started in nine months, started with a couple of cranks!
Speaking of which- frozen battery:thaw it and try and charge it,or just go with new? I'm going with a new one, just wanted your input.

If you know it was frozen then I would be extra careful to watch for leaks around the terminals or if it was puffed out enough then it might have cracked the plastic.

I would take it out and get it thawed. Put it on a clean cloth or paper so you can see any evidence of leaks. If it takes a charge and isn't leaking then I would keep using it. It's cheap insurance (and assurance...) to get it changed as you don't know if any of the plates were damaged on the inside.

It is a BikeMaster kit.
Cost was around $130 and quality is as good as most kits.

Hey Kaptain
How do you like the tech 3s for comfort? I am looking into a new pair of boots that i can walk around in, after the ride is done for the day

Very comfy out of the box but also very stiff. I wouldn't want to walk around the mall in them but I will wear them to work and then change at my desk.

I like the protection they offer.

I have yet to ride in them but I'll let you know how they are on the bike.

What is the OEM wattage of the H7 in the KLR ? What wattage can I safely raise to without changing anything of running risk of melted housing ? If any, that is. (newbee)

Default a who is doing what to their KLR's over the winter threa

Okay. It's that time of year. Who's doing what this winter? On my '97 I'm doing a brake service, coolant change, chain and sprockets (17t front)and topping up the blinker fluid. I also might add brake lights to my Teton panniers. My '05 I will be getting ready to sell in the spring.

Anyone have big plans for off season work?

I got most of my worksheet done (mentioned earlier) with some minor changes like the brand of air filter. Went with a UNI instead of K&N due to in depth research here.

Never did the led bulbs, seemed to be not worth the trouble this year.

However, I have a KLX needle kit from EM and a E-Z mix screw that have yet to be installed.

I told myself I'd do these carb mods this winter, but at this point, I can't bring myself to breakdown a working carb and chance the failure of not doing something right or breaking something in the process.

It's just so hard for me to tear something apart that is currently working.

Still pondering what to do.
