Good times!

Thanks Todd, what a great bunch of guys, excellent turn-out for a first effort. Pretty cool of Ron to come down on his Beamer to give us a hard time and see us off properly. Also cool of Mark to come all the way from Carlton, Minnesota to join us.

Great group of talent, you guys made me feel like a rookie in the dirt!

Above, an overview of our route, taken from Spot 2.

Below, a screen shot of where we put in on the Gandy Dancer Trail.

All that nice slippy sand -n- gravel.....

Below, where we popped out of the Gandy Dancer Trail - and it turned into the Forest Road. The spot where gravel n sand turned into

Ahhh, blacktop...

One of the 2009's on the Gandy Dancer Trail.

An intersection on the Gandy Dancer Trail.

Uhhh.... left or right then?

A total accident, could not get this shot again if I was paid to.

Having a look at the trail map for the Gandy Dancer Trails....

A break for lunch at Tobie's.

Our lovely waitress.

And you guy's thought that pop of my flash was an "accidental discharge" ?

Passing through a memorable small town.

I forget the name of it...

Everyone feared us. Or it was just Sunday and they stayed off the streets?

More of those "reach over the shoulder and click" shots....

A mandatory stop at Kirk's to take inventory. Couple of us scored some deals!

Completing out of sequence, at the McDonald's near the start of our adeventure in Princeton.

Getting it together at Mac's.

Doo Hickey talk.

Or was it the discussion on proper loads for ZOMBIES ?

I think we agreed, rifled slug, then buckshot, rifled slug, then buckshot, rinse, repeat...

Most welcome.

Here is the next proposed bright idea I have.

This would also give our chum from the Carlton, Mn area access to meet and join us as we would proceed east. This would be a longer day, or earlier start, etc.

I have heard much about Wisconsin's TWAT trail, (Trans Wisconsin -something) it's all off road or at least off blacktop..

I have snowmobiled to some extent in the area of it, but never been on it via KLR.

Unrelated, if we get over that way, the Delta Diner (link below) is a popular stop, and a one of a kind experience. That could be destination-1.

The second goal would be to get on the TWAT trail, of which I know nothing about (yet).

I hear it runs from the north near lake Superior and as far south as Illinois. It would be cool to explore a chunk of it.

See links, and crude map screen shot.

Welcome John.

The forums are a good place to learn about the KLR and also stay in touch with others. A small group of us just started getting together for rides (one so far). We hope to arrange more.

Todd

Welcome John (and hello Todd!)

John, you are fairly close to some of us others, we have riders in Ramsey, Elk River, Princeton, and Cambridge, those just the talent from the north burbs- have gotten e-mails and other interest from some mates in Minneapolis, etc.

Welcome aboard sir.

I will just throw this out there, I have to work Saturday, but am off on this coming Sunday, Sept. 19 if anyone want to form up the group and go for a day-cruise somewhere.

Excellent, Todd-

John, you in for Sunday maybe?

I do not have a destination in mind- at least not written in stone.

Couple months ago another rider and I cruised up to Deer River, Mn, taking back roads, all blacktop, there is a great bar with the best burgers and hand cut fries.... it ended up being about a 330 mile day-

I am open though!

What can be great about riding is not having a plan. Just get on the rode and head in a direction, North, West, South or East. When about 1/2 of the day is over, turn around and head back.

I am open to just riding or a plan. It's always good!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm organizing a ride to BIR this Saturday morning (tomorrow) if anybody's looking to join a small group. CRA roadrace weekend--sure to be lots of fun, and the inside of the track is open all the way around for us to wander.

No off-roading to speak of, and I might ride the FJR, but anyone is welcome regardless.

Leaving from Richfield, 7 am. PM me if you need the address this evening.

Shane

Thanks everyone,

Great having this resource available, and some instant friends to ride with

I won't be able to make it on Sunday unless we start from here (or close): 20°53′10″N 156°40′29″W

I do want to do some riding for fall colors with my camera gear when I get back though. Looking forward to meeting you guys.

John
