Default 2018 Arivaca Outback - Dual Sport Desert Daze

A quick note to let you know that the Arivaca Outback/ Dual Sport Desert Daze gathering will be held in Arivaca, February 22nd through February 25th, 2018. We will be centered in the La Siesta RV & camping park. When I get some time on the internet I will update the Arivaca Outback page

Raven will also be updating the Dual Sport Desert Daze pages.

If you are sure that you are coming, it would be a good idea to reserve a spot with Steve at the La Siesta. You can find them on Facebook or email him direct at:

lasiestacampgrounds@gmail.com

I understand that there is also a vintage trailer event happening that weekend so sign up. For those dry camping, spots are almost limitless.

Food is close by at BK's Outlaw BBQ , the La Gitana, Virginia's, Gadsden's Coffee shop and there' also plenty of supplies at the mercantile.

We're working on all this.

We will be doing tech work, buy and sell, and general management from my place and you are always welcome there.

I'm excited to be doing this again next year and to see all of you again. Stay tuned.

A

Definitely on my calendar. I use this ride as the warm up ride before the Arizona Spring Ride.

I had a great time riding this year down there. Even saw RayRay do an impression of Superman. Prettty awesome.

If there's enough interest, I plan to set up a viewing night at Kitt Peak (cost TBD). If not, I'll just haul down one of my scopes for everyone's viewing pleasure.

Cheers

Just a quick note to tell you that I've been doing some riding around Arivaca after my Seattle-Glacier-Arivaca BMW snow plow and have been looking at some of the different rides. Our rainfall this year was not record setting so the roads are in pretty good shape... mostly. I rode the GS up Flux Canyon the other day with Anakee 3 tires and guess what: they closed the road at the top with no notice at the bottom so I had to ride that honker back down some nasty territory.

Bull springs is pretty good for intermediate riders and maybe Tony and Rich will chip in a ride report for the 684 where they rode last week.

I've posted some GPX files of places I've ridden and will post some more as I check them out. See:

Some Rides We Have Taken

Note also that I'm going to rent the Arivaca Community Center for Saturday night and Sunday morning for the two meals we provide and as a place to meet and greet. It is just down the street from the La Siesta Campgrounds.

There is no commercial content in the Arivaca Outback so we are not accepting "sponsors", however, I'm going to make available a spot at my place where you can "Swap-Trade-Buy-Sell" stuff you want to get rid of.

If you bring everything you need on your bike like a real Adventure Rider, you are welcome to set up your tent at my place, but remember that the center of the action is going to be at the La Siesta this year. My place will also be available for you to hang out, work on your bikes or leave large amounts of gold bullion.

OK. More at eleven.

Great Mikey. Did I tell you that I saw you riding at Arches this October? It didn't fully register at the time, but I was thinking he looked like you: a big guy on a KLR.

Haha, ain't that the truth. And you didn't stay for the Sunday ride either. Weathe was much better Sat night!

That reminds me, I'll need to get a headcount for Kitt Peak for those who be intersted. Think it would be a blast to group ride up, tour and do a night ride back.

Later Tater!

I'm all in for Kitt Peak if you all will let me get away. Since we're doing this out of the La Siesta, you can rent a cozy little and vintage trailer to keep warm. I'm also renting the Community Centerl Saturday night and Sunday morning for meals. They have a full kitchen and cooking all that bacon will be a lot easier.

"Adventure" riders are still welcome to camp at my place, but you have to have everything you need on the bike.

So who all is going to this hoedown? I am hoping to get to Arivaca a couple of days early so I can get some extra riding in. I have a spot reserved already at the La Siesta campground. I will have to pester Andy for some ride suggestions.

Mikey, I plan on attending, just waiting till it gets a little closer to pull the plug. The night temps last year where FRIDGID. Hope the weather helps this year.

I’m back in Arivaca and after tomorrow’s follow-up on my broken hand, (another fascinating story) I’ll resume and redouble my attention to this year’s Arivaca Outback and Dual Sport Dessert Daze gathering. Just yesterday I picked up some 20# of bacon from Raven and discussed plans with her and Carmel about how we’re going pull this off. We seem to be gathering more visitors every year so I’m moving the dinner/breakfasts to the Arivaca Community Center which is close to the La Siesta where most folks are staying. I won’t get into it here so take a look at the web pages and forums for more information. See:

https://sites.google.com/site/arivacaoutback/
and
https://www.dualsportdesertdaze.com/

The event is being covered in Adventure Rider: https://advrider.com/index.php?threa...-2018.1236953/

I emphasize that this gathering is just that: a bunch of like-minded folks getting together to ride this beautiful area. We accept no, and do not want any commercial interests. We don’t offer door prizes and kooky T-shirts or, other paraphernalia. You don’t need to be an expert to come, and if you can’t ride, no problem. There are several of us that will be hanging out at my place, the coffee shop or at the Community Center “shooting the breeze” or working on bikes.

This will be the 8th year that I’ve hosted this and last year we had some 60 attendees. Raven’s Dual Sport Dessert Daze has been going for 9. The two events are different in that the A/O has been an Adventure rider gathering where folks bring everything they need (except sourdough pancakes) on their bikes and camp with their own gear:like KLR650 riders.

DSDD has been a gathering of more performance dirt riding where folks bring their bikes on trailers behind big trucks and motorhomes. Their rides tend to be orange. The cross pollination between these two groups has been really successful: each learning a great deal from the other.

In short, I’m really excited to host these events again this year and can’t wait to see you and meet new people as well as introduce the Arivaca area to motorcycle enthusiasts.

If you see any information on the above sites that is outdated, confusing, or just flat wrong, let me know by PM or here. I promise to look at the sites and this forum more often.

I made my campground reservation> Hope the weather is better than last year, Irish and I should have snuggled together to stay warm. (Just Joking Irish)
Looking forward to a great time.

I will check out to Kitt Peak for a tour if available, just need to know how many are inteeested. Otherwise, I'll bring my scopes down for the viewing pleasure of the awesome dark skies!

By the way, if you are on the fence about attending, don't make me post the bacon picture from last year. Ohhh my. Andy and Raven hosted one hell of a shin dig! Lots of fun and the awesome sourdough pancake feasts! Best part was watching RayRay do his Superman impersonation!

Not to dis the other rides, this is the spring event! Awesome trails for moons to the bass A riders needing a challenge.! Food, bikes and fun on the border. What more can you ask for?

Not sure I want to ride to Kitt Peak but I would love to be able to enjoy the night skys with a telescope. The sky should be great for viewing with the limited light polution.

I have my reservation for La Siesta and will be getting there on Tuesday, February 20. So if anyone wants to come early and do some extra riding, that would be great. Since Mo is coming this year, I am bringing my tent trailer. The ground seems a bit harder than it did 20 years ago and getting up off the ground seems a bit more challenging too. Anyhow, if you do come early and stay at the campground, come on over for coffee. We usually have a fresh pot going.
