Default San Diego Truck Trails and Dirt Roads: weekday-weekend rides

Hello

I bought an 09 last month and I've been looking into local San Diego dirt rides. I've looked at some mountain trails between the 805, 78, the boarder and the desert.

I made a list of what looks to be legal dirt trails and roads. I am going to start riding these trails and wanted to see if anyone else would like to join or if anyone already knew the areas and
wanted to ride or could give me any info about them. There looks to be lots of unmarked trails around the mountain lakes so I listed a few of them as well.

I am going to try to get a ride in at least once a week so if anyone is interested, PM me or I'll post it up here and we can meet up for it. If anyone wants to plan a San Diego Dirt Ride, feel free to
post it here and I'm sure there will be other KLR'ers that will attend. (myself for one) I have a couple local friends that ride but don't like the dirt as much as I do.

PLEASE Post any info that you may have about these Trails and Roads or if you'd like to ride. I found these by looking at a map and do not have the finite details about them.

Thanks guys and hope to ride with some of you soon!

Hi, I'm in North Park

Ha ha funny I was just up there, I stoped at the same exact spot!

There's some fun trails at the bottom by the lake that go up the valleys and ridges of the moutain.

Let's ride some of the listed trails or some new ones if your intersted.

The pic SantaKLR posted is of the Otay Mountain Truck Trail:

There are 3 approaches, Alta Rd from the 905, Marron Valley Rd off the 94 and Otay Lakes Rd at Thousand Trails.

Each gain about 2300 feet and are wide packed gravel roads. Otay Lakes dirt rd intersects the center of the Truck Trail at Doghouse Junction.

I can give detailed info about this trail but if you type "Doghouse Junction San Diego" in google maps with the satellite view, you'll see the define road.

I may ride it again tomorrow and would ride all around the surrounding hills anytime.

Thanks for the pic SantaKLR

Cool thanks for the map and extra a pics!

Yes, I started the trail about 6-8 miles east of the Juntion in that map, off of Marron Valley Rd.

The Truck Trail from Marron to Alta is 14 miles of dirt with about 2 extra miles of lead in on Marron from 94.

Have you road Proctor Valley SantaKLR? Do you know if you can go to the top of San Miguel?

Thanks again for the pics and info

Matt

This looks like as good of a place as any to post up the weekly rides. Couple weeks I'll start picking um off the list with you.

Now if we can get one of the Mods to STICKY it we'll be set.

Here is a pic of the Route's I've taken on the Otay Truck trail.

The Red line from Marron Valley Rd to Alta Rd and the Blue line up Otay Lakes dirt Rd to the Doghouse Junction.

I'm glad you posted your map Santa because now I will try those trails heading west from where I came down the hill last time.

Here's a link to the satellite map if anyone wants to look around the area:

Of the three ways to the top the Marron Valley is the least steep. All the ways to the top are much much much better shape than they used to be. Mirrors help in the blind corners. Border Patrol like good roads.

If you head south from the foot of the Marron Valley climb you can run down to to border but they shoo you out now due to the fence construction. But I will be back.

I have been on Proctor Valley about 1000 times but mostly on a MTB. PV valley is extremely rough right now. San Miguel is gated.

Have to be careful though as there are quite a few fences down there. I do not think those tracks will go thru by the Off road race track now as the gates are closed. Have been in that valley hundreds of times on my MTB. Snakes and old ammo in places too.

Lots of ways to navigate and there usually is water to get thru as well.

Here are some more tracks in that area.

Let's do it J, I'll call you shortly.

A friend and I road around Otay Lakes and Proctor Valley today. Proctor was fenced for "Ecological Preservation" so all the good trials were marked "No Trespassing".

Here are a few pics of the trails we rode around the lake though. (to give an idea of the terrain and surrounding)

I'd keep exploring around here a few more times, these trails are fun! Let me know if anyone wants to ride them sometime.

Small Dirt RIDE Tomorrow Afternoon Friday 7/17 4pm: (I know..)

I just talked to Jaycal and we're going to try some trails tomorrow. We'll meet at the 94 where it breaks off of Jamacha in the parking lot on the North East corner of the intersection.

We'll ride 94 to Lyons Valley, to Skyline to Wisecarver Truck Trail to Skye Valley Rd to check out Lake Barrnett. Then either ride around the lake, head South on the trails to the 94 or head back the way we came possibly taking other trials if we can.

Let me now what you think J, I'm totally flexible on this. If anyone else wants to go, PM with either your number or I'l give you mine so we can work out any details.

See you tomorrow J

Thanks for the Info SantaKLR!

Let's plan a ride sometime on these or some new trails.

I think I'll be doing some more riding around Otay, it looks like there is a lot of different trails all around these hills.

Have a good one and thanks again
