Correct. As EagleMike posted the type of tires can also influence MPG. As an example, I did a 300+ mile run on a set of 90/10 tires on my Tenere. I needed to swap tires for an up coming ride and went with a 60/40 tire. I also made the same 300+ mile run on these tires...exact same route/same speeds etc. 90/10 tires I averaged 51mpg. 60/40 tires I averaged 43mpg. On the KLR its primarily your wrist and winds.
