I see there are currently 3 guests reading this thread.......

Please let me explain.........

I was previously a very proud and happy Gen 2 KLR owner. Then one day I sold that Gen 2 and bought a different bike.

I am happy with said bike.....but I miss this place.

So now and then I show up, sow some seeds of love, and then disappear for a while.

Best forum on the net......Bar none.

Yes, the pre96 engines have a number of advantages but also some disadvantages. Be sure you upgrade to post95 balancer system.

If your a level 3 Honda troll, I would hate to meet a level 4. If your AT is the latest and greatest technology has to offer then why did Honda put tube tires on it?

Questions.....

1. How often do you see an actual troll....a scum sucking troublemaker.....with a post count over 3,000?

2. If I was a scum sucking troll, would Robert Z have tolerated my antics?

3. Did you read through the thread?

4. What is the only effective way of dealing with a troll? Ignore them. Old proverb.....Don't wrestle with a pig. You'll just get muddy and the pig will enjoy it.

P.S. I'll let one of the experts chime in and explain why Honda chose to put tube-type tires on their off-road capable ADV bike. There was no cost savings to Honda to do so, and many AT owners wished they had gone with tubeless......But there was a good reason.

Just seems that tube tires on a highway adventure bike is pretty old school. The one redeeming quality of the AT is that is sure looks a lot like the Kawasaki Tengai. (Basically a Gen 1)

I'm no expert, but I will NOT be going tubeless on any bike I intend to ride offroad. Tubeless has some advantages;
- lighter reciprocating mass
- you can sometimes use a plug kit rather than re&re a tire to patch/replace a tube
- ride-on and similar products work better tubeless

BUT,
- if you get a sidewall tear or other tire damage that cannot be fixed with a plug, you will need to install a tube or re&re the tire to patch from the inside
- if you have ever tried to seat a tubeless tire on a rim in the middle of the bush without adequate air volume, let's just say, you're in for a treat!

I will suggest that Honda stuck with tubes on the AT for the same reason as they stuck with 21" tires; because they intend the bike to be very capable offroad.....and all real offroad and MX bikes run tubes for a reason.

I would consider the Tubliss setup if they made a 17" model, as it doubles as a rimlock and you can ride some distance offroad with no tire pressure as long as the high speed bladder stays pressurized - in fact I managed to finish 3/4 off an offroad race with a flat rear using the Tubliss.

Other options like tire balls and bib mousses aren't good options for pavement use due to heat concerns.

Cheers,
Dave
