Amazing fall weather here in northern California. A little breezy, 74 degrees with a few light wispy clouds.

Perfect day for a ride! Up the coast? Over across the Delta?

Nah! I'll stay here and scrape some more gaskets and wait for the UPS truck tomorrow.

KLRCHRIS.COM sells them in a set ready to bolt into place. My bike is tall so I needed the length adjustment. Ride Safe James

I have been wanting to do this for years, saw pictures of them years ago on a Kawasaki Stockman from Australia, thought it would be a much better setup than a center stand while off-road. Never knew that someone actually made them.

I do have a question on use, can you use both at the same time to lift the rear tire for chain maintainence?

Thanks for posting.

Good question! I don't think that would be convenient, but you could use one of the varieties of a " trail jack" on the left side for better access to the chain. A friend of mine was able to support the bike for shock repair/replacement by using rocks under both stands. Maybe he will chime in with details on how he did that. Ride safe James

Rebar, thanks for answering my questions.
I always end up using my trunk box when I have needed to remove the rear tire on the road. I am hoping that the dual kickstand would act kind of like a center stand. I was thinking that if you extended the kickstands a little put down one of them then pushed the bike sideways toward the stand on the ground so the rear tire lifts and then put down the other kickstand that it might hold the bike up with rear tire off the ground. Kind of a build in trail-jack.

I cleaned her up, installed my new sticker "Bigfoot doesn't believe in you either", and lubed the chain. Yes, I lube my chain more than most, but I figure it can't hurt... I had a couple of really nice rides over the weekend,so now I have to scrape the bug debris off to tell what color she is again. I had hoped the bugs were done for the year, but not quite yet...

I knocked out a few minor things I started yesterday.

track down a replacement license plate blub, find a replacement grade 8 bolt for my pannier rank (mine vibrated out somewhere), removed some LED rear turn signals/clearance light-things installed by the PO, fixed some wiring that was "fixed" by the dealer (they fixed some wiring done by the PO. after the "fix" my headlight didnt work).

It's not back on the road and ready to rock!!

Hey Maverick, what brand of hand protectors are those? The bike looks like it might be a bit hard to ride with the invisible seat and gas tank though ...

Those are acerbis brand bark busters with the plastic hand protector pieces removed (the plastic didn't survive very long & I found that the steel support still does a GREAT job at protecting my hands and bike controls).

Finished up the 685 install on Tuesday, and the break-in rides. I've been cruising it around happy again and then someone else pulled in front of me on their cell phone. That little KLR horn just doesn't cut it.
I ordered this a while back and decided that today was the day. It's a Stebel Nautilus air horn.

Found some tubing, did some fitting, and then the welder came out, drilled some holes, and it all fit under the fairing.
Found an old fog light harness complete with a relay that's the same as the one that came with the horn. A little cutting, some connectors and it's in and working!

No one will expect to see a bike when I honk this thing. It sounds great!

I actually also installed the Stebel Nautilus on Saturday. Then I took it to the inspection place so I could get it street legal. I think the inspector needed a new pair of pants when I hit it. The look on his face was priceless.

Right now I just have it zip tied on. Where did you get that bracket, or did you make it? I need to get one but am not a welder so looking at options.

Edit:i just realized your bike is Gen 2, and my understanding is that mounting brackets are not compatible between the two

My state inspector had same reaction, when he said "now the horn?"
I put a Harbor Freight set on my KLR. 2 horns cost $10.00

that set was a steal and it sounds just as good as the stebel which is over twice the price

I had originally put a set on my Honda NX250 many years ago. I still have them on there, and they still perform like new. Being a small bike, I need all the sound I can get.

Scrub a dub dub, KLR in the tub! Just kidding, but I did clean the bike off, as I had encountered a heavy dose of gnats. I guess I shouldn't ride by Gnat Creek and environs... The windscreen was really bad, as were all forward facing surfaces. Kind of like a stucco bath tub...

Made the bracket, and I always enjoy having a welder in the garage.
Got to use it for the first time the other day. They had no idea where that noise from coming from.
