Default needs carb work

I have an 09 KLX250s that's been sitting for 2 years. I drained the tank and pulled the carb to get all the gas out and put it back together. It would not fire. I took the air cleaner out and and sprayed a bit of carb cleaner in and it fired right up. Stays running as long as you spray. So it looks like the carb has to come off again. Is there a short cut, like a most common place to clean/spray? Must you do a total rebuild? Just pull the jets and spray out?? What do you think?

No shortcut after sitting for 2 years. I would disassemble the whole carb and either soak it or get it get it ultrasonically cleaned. I would also just buy new jets since they are cheap and yours sound either totally blocked or really crudded up. After all that chase every orifice/passage with carb cleaner and compressed air to confirm they are clear. Don't forget to inspect any gaskets and rubber parts for cracks, holes or decay.

Thanks JeffsDarkSide. I felt like that would have to be done. Just didn't want to face it! Got to do the same thing for the KLR650. Getting them ready to sell.

Denial is a wonderful thing..........unless your bike isn't running!!

I hope you are still going to be riding something since you are in such a beautiful part of the country. Nothing better than the TN, GA and NC areas of the Appalachians IMHO!!

The app's are indeed a great place. My wife and I stayed at Crawford's Campground for a long weekend a few years ago and had a really great time. I don't have immediate plans but one day I'd love to get a twin of some kind. I like the thought of the Yamaha.

Okay I think I have everything cleaned except the pilot jet. Does anyone know what the hole diameter should be? I can see some daylight through it but I do see some trash also. I tried the smallest torch tip cleaner that I have and it does not fit. I also tried some very thin piano wire for hanging pictures and it does not fit.

No idea but OEM jets are cheap or you could search your nearest welding supply store for some tip cleaners..............HD or Lowes should have them too.

I have that exact set. Thanks though. I'll give it one more soak and clean and if it doesn't work I'll get a new one. Appreciate the input!
