Default Heavily modded DirtRacks sideracks

A while back I called up Fred from DirtRacks and asked about a set of raw racks for my First-gen KLR and he quoted me up a great price for local pickup. My sister had one of her boys from Lordco Autoparts go around to the other side of the block, pick them up and then she got them to me really quickly.

First impression - very nice.

Small issues - I have a lockbox behind my license plate that holds my bikes most important papers. I needed to move the rear crossbar up by 1.5" and back by 3/4". At the same time, I wanted to put a trailer hitch on my bike -- so -- I modded it like crazy.

I made the hitch out of 1" tubing, mounted it to the original rear cross-member bolt holes and welded new plate to the original mount to move the cross-member up, welded 3/4" tubing as a spacer and then set things up so that I could mount my Kolpin Gunboot 6.0 cases to the sideracks or mount a set of PrincessAuto suitcases to the sideracks ( https://www.princessauto.com/en/detai...ox/A-p8486037e )

Pictures below of the mods and of the two different cases mounted up ...

I added hand holds to mine for my wife. Makes her feel much more secure.
