Cool Re: SgtMarty tech day, April 24, 2010

Well I have to say I consider my first KLR tech day a total success, despite the chilly wet ride down. Thanks to Marty and Laurie for the terrific chili and hospitality. Thanks to Alan and Don for their expert help with the Doo (I now know how to fish tiny parts out of the engine case!). And thanks to the whole crew for a great time overall.

Whoever took the photo got a great shot of my butt. Thanks - that's my good side.

The doo over the years pictured are left to right. Far left is the early years I thinks this one is from 86 or 87 stamped steel Doo.
The next one is from a 06 with 2000 miles on it. the next one is from a 08 with 1852 miles on it hard to see but the one from the 06 is welded and thin the 08 is one piece machined and thicker of course the one on the right is Eagle mikes the best.

I came out missing a small socket wrench, so if everyone would check your tools, I'd appreciate it. It has a rubber handle and a rotating thumb wheel to change directions.

I got the subframe back on my bike, and the motor will be delivered tomorrow, so it should be done by the end of the week. We'll be ready to ride this weekend unless something goes "boink" unexpectedly.

Now I see that I'm also missing two 12mm wrenches. One combo wrench, and one ratcheting combo. No biggie, but please do check your tool kits, please.

My replacement motor has arrived, so I will be intstalling it today (Wedensday) and the bike should be operational soon.

I had a few more calls and emails, so there should be several more people at the tech day on May 8th.

See ya there.

I'm a little late on saying thanks for the tech clinic, but here goes.....Thanks for hosting the clinic Marty!

I checked my bag for tools, but alas, no tools found, and there are no clunking sounds coming from the engine case either. Good to meet new people who really know their KLR's and I'm very appreciative ya'll showed me the way through Doo'ville.

Sorry Marty, I don't have your wrenches. I left my coffee mug though, not that it's much of a consolation. Hope ya find them.

Hey Marty, I haven't seen your wrenches either. I don't think I'll be able to make it to the next day, but that work schedule will be coming out soon, so we'll see.

Thanks again!

I have not seen the AWOL wrenches, but it is possible that Alan accidentally dropped them into my engine case while we were doing my doo. I'll look for them the next time I open up the bike.

Damn! Ya caught me! I must point out though, that technically, I still don't have them. Really though, when have I ever dropped anything into an engine?

I'm not stressing over the tools, so don't worry. I did find the small socket wrench on the floor under some stuff, so it must have been kicked under there.

Don and I got my replacement motor installed and running on Thursday, so that's a relief. A few minor tweaks and fixes and it'll be good to go.

Alan, we have your mug waiting for you.

RageInTheSage, was that your drill bit I broke? I have a replacement for you, and should have given it to you at the tech day but I got distracted.

We'll start wrenching when people show up on the 8th. Should have a grill on hand as well.

So for those you planning riding down from the north. See the previous post about meeting at DazBog at 0700 to 0715. Kickstands up at 0730.

I will be bringing bagels again so breakfast is on me.

See you there.

I'll be there this time for sure (I wussed out due to the weather last time). At least the forecast looks good this time

Need to do: Doohicky mod, & Thermobob if I have time. Maybe even a sprocket change if the part comes in by then.

Really looking forward to meeting some other riders.

Okay, my bike is running great and I finished the initial break-in riding today.

I'll have a grill showing up before noon, so we can burn whatever meat is laying around. Until then, we'll have bagels and a few other munchies. Feel free to bring something interesting. I'll have some sodas, water, and beer on hand as well.

Weather looks to be mild that day, so that's an improvement.

Thanks for prompting the date change, Mike.
