Default Great Lakes Tech Day?

Seems like plenty of KLR folks in the G.L. area. Anyone interested in putting together a tech day? I for one wouldn't mind a little moral support for a couple of maintenance items (valve clearance check & doohickey).

???

Pretty Bike!

You probably know but they are having a Tech Day in Indiana April 8th. https://www.klr650.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6659

Otherwise, a tech day in Michigan somewhere might be a good idea. I'm not a mechanic but maybe we got one here from this area and we could get a tech day going in this area also?

I thought I could make the Indiana tech day, but it turns out I can't.

I just got Jay's DVD on the valve adjustment procedure, and it's got some great pointers, and it's a good clear video. I'm going to go for it pretty soon, but I want to do the Doohickey at the same time and I need to order the Doohickey kit and tools (unless somebody already has the tools and is willing to share!).

Got some great riding in this weekend!

Chet

So it sounds like we might have enough interest for a tech day. I think even a small one would be a BIG help to some of us. We have a mechanic (that was an offer right, AvengUSA?). So it sounds like we just need a garage and a date. I'll cover food if I can have the opportunity just to watch this stuff get done.

I am interested in attending also. My work schedual is hecktic at times ( I am sent on the road in short notice , saturdays, ect.) but I will keep watch on postings and try to hook up. I also have short (200 Mile) trips planed soon and should check my valve clearance, possibly this weekend. I still havent reached 500 miles but am working on it as weather permits. I know chetc is planning on doing some work on his also. I need to order the parts and tools yet also, but figured I would check the valves first and order shims, if needed, at that time also. Hope to meet up with you guys soon...ride on!!
PS Check this out ! Crashed it june 2002, back on the road august 2002, still my favorite adrenaline fix, still unbeaten!! https://hometown.aol.com/flyingdutchm...age/photo.html

I am from East Lansing, but currently work in Ann Arbor. Any tech day within two or three hours would be awesome.

Default Not Michigan, but Twin Cities tech day April 28

It's not close by for you guys in Michigan, but we are planning to hold a tech day in the Twin Cities, Minnesota on April 28. It will be at my house, Paul Streeter. The last two years we've had 18 to 20 KLR's in my garage and driveway.

Well, I went and did it, or should I say doo'd it.
I went ahead and bought a wrench, borrowed a puller and changed my doo.
I also went ahead and adjusted the valves, and I am really glad I did. they were getting way tight.
Anyway, if anyone up here in the great white north would like some help doing either or both of these things, I would be glad to lend a hand.
I don't know everything, but I have found that somebody on this site does.

Is anyone invited to the tech day in the twin cities? If so I'll have to see if I can get away from Madison for the weekend. I'm new to riding and would love to learn how to do some of the maintenance myself.

Default potential site

I might be able to host a day or weekend, I don't have many appropriate tools (borrowed dohinckey tools when I did it). But I have a pole barn with plenty of lighting, and plenty of yard if anyone needs to camp if they are comming from from far away. I live near Battle Creek, and my place is only about 2 miles off of the hiway (I-94). I'd of course have to clear it with the spousal unit, but as she is a biker, I am sure she'd love to see a bunch of freaks, I mean bikers show up. I also have about a million(well ten) Oil filters, so I could donate a few of them to the cause if anyone needs an oil change.

Default Let's Due it.

I just got my bike, but if you plan it close enough I will bring my 08 and see how you do the valves for future reference.

Hey flying dutchman, isn't GR about right for us to converge... hint hint.

Or, if not, I have a barn we can use and some normal tools. You guys bring the special ones.

Default me too

I also just got a klr that I would like to check valves on and do the doo on. I am on the lakeshore but GR, BC, Lansing, Kzoo would all be just fine with me if the tech day is a go this year.
