Default The Apple Cider Run in PA

I rode this ride the last four Sundays each time changing it up just a bit.
Two, three or four mountain crossings on dirt track. Take your pick or do a few. Stop off at Appalachian Trail in a few different locations. Rides in the valleys, rides on the roads and rides in the sticks. ( rural areas..read shacks ). Apples & fresh apple cider 1/2 way through and a stop off at Hawk Mtn area & Bake Oven Knob. ( 1,400' elevation )

About a 80 mile run to & from my house near the Lehigh Gap. The valleys are full of narrow asphalt roads, lots of twisties & almost no cars. I had 4 really fun & fast Oct/Nov Sunday runs. This is the best fall fun I had yet.

This all takes place along the Appalacion Trail & Blue Mtn just NE of Hamburg, PA not far from the Cabela's.

Up the first mountain from the valley.

Turns from asphalt to packed gravel with some 90 turns on both sides.

Downhill stop for photo of reservoir below.

Into the valley below, see woods in background. Just came out.

Looking N, Hawk Mtn off to the left 5 miles

More of a modern PA Dutch Farm

Back up to Hawk Mtn to App Trail

App Trail shelter in private residence back yard.

I'm 24.8 miles from home the way a hiker walks

That me dressed for hunting season!

Apples & Cider. Can pick your own.

How do you like those apples?

i live in ST.CLAIR, right up the road from you. did ya ever notice the signs for the appalachian trail on rt.61 and rt.183 are backwards (maine south and georgia north)?i have an 08 KLR. the eckville shelter isn't a private residence it's owned by the park service. i know this because my buddy is the caretaker there.

No, I didn't know it was not private. Based on the sign on the lawn, you'd think it was private.

I enter the area from the east. I never noticed the AT signs on Rt 61 as being reversed.

That's not by mistake. Maybe by compass heading? The trail kind of splits off in this are to work back up to the ridge. Sign set up for compass or gps users. But who really cares? That's PA for you. I'm from the big city. Very backwards out here.

Markcap,

Thanks for the pictures! I am from Lancaster, PA but am now living in Pella, Ia.

These pictures really make me homesick. Iowa has lots of gravel roads for exploring, but NO HILLS.

Oh well, hopefully I won't be stranded in Iowa for life.

I'm headed back today (by car of course) to central PA for a weeks vacation and Thanksgiving with family.

How about putting a map, or at least letting me in on the towns that might be included in this ride.
